I’ll be honest, when I first heard about this ‘festive’ World of Tanks, I was sceptical. But in my mind, there are 3 key aspects that make the festive holiday season special: spreading the festive cheer, the gift of giving, and spending quality time with the family. Publishers Wargaming.net have fulfilled all of these criteria with World of Tanks Holiday Ops 2019. So, there really is no reason not to give this free-to-play game a go between 13th December to 14th January.
Spreading Festive Cheer

The standard World of Tanks has been wrapped in tinsel, sparkles and cheer so that on top of completing battle missions over Christmas and New Year, you can also earn decorations to put on your tank and around your garage. In the Tank garage there are several interactive elements ready for decoration, such as a fir tree, a sculpture and a field kitchen. Each decoration you earn enhances your ‘Festive Atmosphere’ in the Garage. The rarer the decoration, the more festive points it brings, with a total of 10 levels of Festive Atmosphere and 5 levels of decoration rarity to be explored! Covering your tanks and garage setting with decorations and lights is sure to get you in the festive spirit.
Giving and receiving gifts

As well as extensive decorations, much of the holiday period revolves around giving and receiving gifts from friends and family. World of Tanks Holiday Ops is no different. For starters, the game is free to play. On top of this, all the goods you get inside loot boxes are worth more than the box itself; containing even more and better decorations than 2018’s Holiday Ops! Each box will contain consumables, credits and holiday decorations to bring even more cheer to your screen. The decorations in the loot boxes are divided into four styles: New Year, Christmas, Magic New Year and Lunar New Year. There are special albums for each collection that allow you to keep track of your progress and the rewards you collect along the way. When you complete an entire collection, you will receive a unique customization style, an inscription and an emblem to customize your vehicles and your garage. In exchange for all these gifts you will be discovering, give the gift of a well decorated garage and tank to the crew. So many gifts!
Holiday Ops even goes one valuable step further, acknowledging the fact that we sometimes return or exchange the gifts we receive over the holidays. The New Year Large Holidron Decorider 2.0 returns, allowing you to smash decorations you don’t want and get the decorations you were missing by using the smashed-up shards to create other decorations to complete your collection. The collider has been brought back due to its success last year, with an overall makeover that gives all the interfaces a slick and refreshed look.
Bringing the Family together

Although when you think of the holiday season, tanks may not be the first image to pop into your head, there is good reason behind this wartime-Christmas synthesis. It relates to the third factor that makes the holiday season so special – spending time with family (and over-eating large tasty meals). Holiday Ops is inspired by the historic relationship between warfare and festivities. Historically even during wartime, the festive season was celebrated and commemorated. One of the most notable examples of this wartime festivity is the Christmas truce of 1914 when British, French and German soldiers crossed the trenches to exchange seasonal greetings, play football and sing carols together. Inspired by the opportunity to do something different with World of Tanks and the idea that festive celebrations can unite even those on opposite sides of conflict, Holiday Ops is an excellent mix of holiday cheer and family fun – multiplayer mode would be a great activity to play with your uncle whilst waiting for the roast potatoes to get crispy.
