Indie Game Release Round-Up: August 2026

August is here, which means we’re nearing the end of summer. Frankly, that’s excellent news for anyone who has had enough of heatwaves. It’s been hot enough to see the air itself, and we’re done with it.

Summer can sometimes be a quieter time for new releases. That is very much not the case this year. August is packed with all sorts of brilliant-looking indie games, so let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

Pixel-art fight between two characters in a neon-lit apartment in Anomaly President.

Anomaly President – 3rd August

Anomaly President is a roguelike action game about trying to build a better world. By day, you’ll chase votes and keep people on side. By night, you’ll take down enemies as either a sword-wielding master or a cyber mage. It’s an absurdly silly concept, but it looks like a lot of fun. There’s also definitely a character in there with Sanji-style powers, which feels worth noting.

Colourful characters work together to solve a puzzle inside a red-walled room in Big Walk.

Big Walk – 4th August

Big Walk is a cooperative multiplayer adventure from House House, the creators of Untitled Goose Game. It’s all about teamwork, talking, and getting pleasantly lost with your friends. You’ll explore a wide-open world full of puzzles, challenges, and strange little discoveries. To stay in contact, you’ll use proximity voice chat, gestures, walkie-talkies, and whatever else you can find. It sounds like the kind of game where half the fun comes from the plan going wrong.

A black-and-white cat knocks toys, flowers and household objects across a coffee table in Cat Chaos.

Cat Chaos – 5th August

Cat Chaos is another entry in the “be a cat and knock things over” genre. As ever, we’re here for it. This time, you can choose the specific style of cat you want to cause trouble as. Then you can spin around destroying objects and hunting for collectables. It all looks very cute, and could be a perfect way to unwind after a stressful day.

A pixel-art settlement filled with tents, machinery and rooftop gardens in Doloc Town.

Doloc Town – 6th August

Doloc Town has been in Early Access for a while now, and in August, it finally hits its full release. It’s a beautiful pixel art farming game set after the end of the world. Unlike most games in the genre, it also plays out as a side-scroller. Alongside all the farming, you’ll need to fight off monsters here and there, so expect a little pushback while you’re trying to rebuild.

A confident adventurer stands beside quest details, character stats and equipment menus in Sovereign Tower.

Sovereign Tower – 6th August

Sovereign Tower has you recruiting and managing knights whilst managing your kingdom’s future from inside a magical tower. It looks absolutely stunning, and so if you like story-heavy games with plenty of flair, this one should be worth a look. There’s also a time-rewinding mechanic for revisiting decisions, which should make managing all those big heroic egos even more interesting.

Soldiers move cautiously through a dense jungle with rifles raised in Hell Let Loose: Vietnam.

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam – 13th August

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is the follow-up to the hit 50v50 FPS Hell Let Loose. Once again, players will need to work together through massive tactical battles inspired by history. It’s all about coordinating with your squad, securing objectives, and helping your team win the day. If it can capture the intensity of the original, this could be a major one for shooter fans.

A dwarf battles skeletons and a bone pile inside a glowing red attack zone in Dwarrf: A Pinball Roguelike.

Dwarrf: A Pinball Roguelike – 21st August

Dwarrf: A Pinball Roguelike is more or less what you’d expect from the title. There’s more going on here than pinball alone, though. Alongside all the bouncing around, there are hints of Peggle and Bubble Bobble in the mix. You’ll also collect plenty of powers as you go. It looks excellent, and we’re very ready for it to consume our free time.

A stylised skater races across a colourful arena surrounded by castle walls in L8R SK8R.

L8R SK8R – 28th August

L8R SK8R is a 3D platformer inspired by classic collectathon games. There’s a hub world to mess around in and plenty of things to chase down. The twist is that, instead of collecting crystals or gems, you’re collecting time. You’ll need to blast through missions as quickly as possible to lower your total time and unlock the next area. It’s a very cool concept. It should land nicely with arcade fans and platforming obsessives alike.

Jason likes to focus on roguelikes and co-op games; in a dream world he'd make a living writing about Dark Souls. As well as being a writer he also does personal training and accounting and can occasionally be seen on other people's streams. Being a big fan of fluffy things means he has two cats, both of whom refuse to let him sleep, but at least they are cute.
