When considering your base design in Rust, the largest factor is always what purpose your base will be constructed for. Obviously your base is there for you to return to and rest up, as well as a place to store your loot, but there are many reasons you may build a base. Each base type has a design that best suits its purpose.
So let’s dive into the world of Rust base building and make sure that you’re ready to fend off other players, keep your stuff safe, and have a great roof over your head.
Best Rust Starter Base Design
If you’re just starting out in Rust or you’re playing just after Wipe Day, you’ll need something simple, quick to build, and easily replaceable. When you don’t have much loot or resources, there’s no point building to last.
That’s why we recommend a simple base that can be quickly built and quickly abandoned should the worst happen such as the Mini Fort.
You’ll be looking to upgrade your base from wood to stone as soon as possible, as anything less than stone will simply be too open to destruction. A cupboard, a couple of furnaces and boxes, a workbench, and the strongest doors and locks you can make and you’ll be ready to survive. At least for a while, and if someone comes knocking and does get in, you shouldn’t be too far away from rebuilding. For more info, check out Evil Wurst’s video:
Best 1-3 Player Rust Base Design
At this point in the game you’ve potentially made a couple of allies and you’ve got a bit more loot and resources to slap around. That’s why we recommend a design which works well as an upgrade of your starter base, letting you build in your own time and at your own pace.
The Javelin Base is a great design that is a tough nut to crack, as well as being fairly upgradeable and cheap to start building meaning you can work your way up to the full design.
With internal and external auto turrets, a low upkeep cost, an enclosed 360 degree shooting gallery and easy access to the drop boxes, the Javelin is a great early-to-mid game base. For more info, check out Cosmonatic Films’ video:
Best Clan Rust Base Design
Now you’ve got yourself a clan, a group of people working together to defend yourselves against the worst Rust has to throw at you. Naturally, you’ll need a lot more space, loot storage, and defences.
The El Padre is our choice for best clan base, a deceptively simple base that utilises advanced base building techniques. With powerful, comprehensive active defence measures, great turret coverage, and multiple levels, the El Padre is a brilliant way to keep your clan safe.
