Gothic devs move away from gothic

ELEX is a handcrafted action role-playing experience from the award-winning creators of the Gothic series, set in a brand new post-apocalyptic Science Fantasy universe that puts players into a huge seamless game world full of original characters, mutated creatures, deep moral choices and powerful action. So far I am enjoy this game very much, there is a couple things that bug me, like the mini map not showing much just dots of where npc's are, after you find them, so far on how much i have played, it is a great game, the graphics are lush and well presented and are what we have come to expect from Piranha Bytes, the only issue I have found is when some you are talking to someone, the mouth sometimes does not line up with the words. the quest system is interesting and so far looks like it will spend time in doing them, there is a lot of talk when you talk to some one, which could make you drift of in the middle of them. But they need to be done, as sometimes the quest they have, does not always appear, until you have talked to them for a while, luckily though you can find the entire quest convo in the quest section. The crafting system and skill system, will take a while to learn, as there is 7 trainers within the game, that once you find them, since they don't appear on the map, until after you find them. Even though I have just started the game, I can say, that I could find my self, losing my self in this game, the overall picture of the game has already drawn me, the story, is making me want to know more, the graphics apart from when your are talking to some one are fantastic and the quests go beyond the simple fetch and carry stuff, so I can say with out much doubt i can give this game a 9.5/10 at the mo, simple because of the mini map and the graphics when you talk to someone. so if you are interesting go buy the game in the link above, I say go and buy you will find your self being drawn in like you where on elex and drift in to this new forgotten realm

Pirahna Bytes finally done it!

What can I say!? It's the best Piranha Bytes game since Gothic 2! I'm still far from finishing it. But after 10 hours the progress in the character development slowly begins to appear, the first more difficult quests comes and one immerses deeper into the world. The setting is just great, Science-Fantasy works as a setting unexpectedly wonderful. The game world, typical of the studio, is rough and ruthless. On the bad note, typical of Piranha Bytes are the animations and here and there also on character models and textures that asks to be done better. Elex is extremely stable, no crashes so far, the performance remains stable and the gameplay is fluid. The only problem are the glitches, sometimes the camera shows strange angle during conversations, sometimes some texture will not load but since the game is so much fun I can turn the blind eye on that aspect hoping this will be patched eventually. What worries me is the sound acting, some roles are a bit stiff and this simple patch will not fix... TL; DR Pros: + Atmosphere and overall setting + character design + Varied, believable game world + Fractions, which are REALLY different from each other + Decisions are drastically affecting the game world + Numerous character development possibilities + Many solutions, even for side quests + Credible characters whose motivation can always be comprehended Cons: - wooden animations - occasional textures pop and various quality - the fighting system requires getting used to - overall glitchfest All in all, for me, the best Pirahna Bytes game since Gothic 2.

Gothic meets Fallout

Elex is another game from Piranha Bytes and it has mostly everything that his developer is known for. Quirky humor, tank controls and overall low-budget trying to be high budget kind of game. It might sound confusing, but think of trying to do Skyrim but with only fraction of a budget. Really, Elex is more or less Risen 3 and it has everything that was right with it - plot, simple fighting system, setting, only quests, exploration and some characters are some high quality stuff. The game is hard in the beginning, but it is harder than Risen 3 mostly because you're underleveled and overpowered by enemies (so pretty much any PB game since Gothic 1). Bugs there are plenty, from technical/graphical issues to quests/dialogs bugging out, optimisation overall is fine, though. Sci-fi is not easy to do, mostly because you must have a good lore to sell it, here not only it is pretty safe sci-fi, it also tries to throw fantasy into the mix, which, with these production values, is not that interesting, sadly. Plot is uninteresting and artifically dragged, wearing it extremely thin. Overall, the game is not bad, it's just Piranha Bytes game, with great and rewarding exploration, but pretty tanky and limited controls (shooting really sucks). If you liked Risen games, you will be in for a treat, but if you miss the days of Gothic 2 + Night of the Raven, then just keep on searching, because those days are long gone. While press shredded this to pieces, it is not that bad, but it could've been better. Give it a try when it's on sale, unless you're PB fan. From me, it is 7-7,5/10 and it's better to wait for a sale.
