Naval War: Arctic Circle ist ein Echtzeitstrategiespiel (RTS), in welchem der Spieler die gegnerischen Wasser- und Luftstreitkräfte bekämpft, um Macht und die uneingeschränkte Weltherrschaft zu erreichen. Das Spiel enthält reale Einheiten des Vereinigten Königreichs, Deutschlands, der Vereinigten Staaten, Russlands, Skandinaviens und anderen. Das Spiel enthält Schauplätze entlang der norwegischen und britischen Küste sowie von Island und Grönland über Nordamerika bis zur Nordwestpassage.

Naval War: Arctic Circle enthält zwei komplette Kampagnen, Skirmish-Missionen und kompetitive Onlinespiele. Letztendlich erzählt Naval War: Arctic Circle die Geschichte einer Macht, die um die Weltherrschaft ringt.

Nothing impressive


I love simulation games, but this one doesn't do it for me. I'm sure there are Navy buffs that would love it though. It's just too slow for my taste. I played through several of the tutorials that you are required to play, and I couldn't get into the game. For instance, looking for an enemy sub takes about as long as it would in real life. You have aircraft scouring the massive map while your ships and helicopters search other sectors. It's time consuming, but maybe that's what some people are looking for. In terms of the graphics, I feel slightly mislead by the pictures Even with the graphics on Ultra, I wasn't impressed. I can't even explain it, but my recommendation is that if you're interested in buying this game, check out videos of the gameplay on youtube first. That's what I should have done...

Good for what it is, which is not much


The game is well designed and well balanced. Decisions matter, and as movement takes a good amount of time, you can completely whack yourself with a bad battle plan. However, the missions feel repetitive and not rewarding at all. I would recommend getting this only if you have friends to play with, as the multiplayer experience is great. It adds much needed unpredictability to the game. Thanks to a nice guy at a Paradox event, I got this game for free, but for €20 I would probably look elsewhere for entertainment. If you can get it on sale and bring your friends with you you might have a good time though.

Haphazard and Inept.


\Having tracked the progress of this project since it's first announcement I was filled with high anticipation of a worthy successor to both "Harpoon 3 ANW" (although not expecting anywhere near the detail) and "Fleet Command", and still venerable old Jane's title. Instead, and after several patches and a questionable DLC that I also bought, this "game" is flawed to the point of "man the lifeboats". If you can get through the tutorial, which is probably the best part of this amateur title, the ugly GUI and lack of a Save Game feature then you'll likely find yourself tearing your hair out with freezes and crashes that plague the game. That's right, no SAVE GAME. In a strategy title this is almost unheard of in this day and age, particularly with missions lasting up to several hours. If you have the time to sit for one to six hours straight then you might not have other 'real world' events to distract you. Even if you can play for that long without a break, the freezes and crashes will destroy your progress in any given mission but the most basic. The enemy also has an amazing ability to spot you coming from over the horizon, and yet no matter how many subs you've advanced or AWAC's you've deployed, you won't see them until the missiles are already descending on your fleet. Amazed that your 688i 'Los Angeles' Attack Sub, running deep and silent can be picked up more than 30km away using passive sonar you'll be doubly amazed when an enemy helo drops a homing torpedo without deploying any sonar whatsoever. Game over. The PI Forum is full of such anecdotes, and the hope was when the Devs gained more finance these issues would be fixed. Instead, they released a very questionable DLC that most original owners won't touch. Poor show, poor game. If you can pick it up for 5 bucks, you'll be paying what it's worth.

Decent game.


This game is quite decent. It's a great contender to many other games like this, since it has 3 key points that set it apart from other games like this: graphics, UI, and of course, the gameplay. Unlike many other games, this game includes many other ways to win your battles other than just ships, you've got airplanes, jets, ships, helicopters, submarines, etc. This adds a lot of variation and that makes it great to play. Even though I usually despise games in this genre, I highly recommend this one as it was very VERY good.
