This game looks great and plays wonderfully. I had an absolute blast playing through it. It is challenging, yet not overly hard on the normal difficulty setting. This is one of the few games where, for the most part, your AI squad mates actually are intelligent and help you fight the enemy. This game has exciting and never repetitive missions that you embark on. This game feels very realistic. Especially so in the viability of the enemy in the terrain and the amount of damage your character can take before being knocked down and needing medical care. I highly recommend this game to everyone.
Codemasters have taken the Operation Flashpoint IP and turned it to a wannabe call of duty spliced with Battlefield and did not do it well. Don't get me wrong. The game is fun if you have friends with you to play the up to 4 players co-op but if you are looking for a tactical shooter like Arma or the old Operation Flashpoint titles, do not look here! For the low price on GMG and a voucher, I would say GO FOR IT! But get your friends to join you either way.
I have been playing FPSs since the earliest titles (Wolfenstein 3D) and don't restrict myself to one franchise or game type in the genre, playing everything from COD, BF style titles to Arma2. When I saw Red RIver and its feature set, I thought this might be the title I was looking for i.e the expansive game areas and tactical gameplay of Arma 2, combined with the fluid movement/animations of COD/BF type titles, all wrapped up in co-op multiplayer that I can enjoy with mates. Red River delivers this and is squarley aimed at co-op multiplayer, to the point where single player is good (but not great) and PvP is absent altogether....a brave move really and one that suits this game just fine.
It's a really awesome game. I love the "realism" aspects that it brings to the FPS genre that other games lack. It's definitely a great change compared to other FPS games. I would definitely recommend purchasing this game.
For being what it is, codemasters has done a fantastic job at making a "realistic shooter." Although this game does not exactly hail to the original games, it does capture a nice hybrid of the newer first person shooter mechanics coupled with armas true simulation. If you are looking for a true simulator, I suggest moving over to Arma, of which is the true spiritual successor to the original flashpoint games. If you are looking for a more battlefield/arma hybrid, this is definently the way to go. Great graphics, fairly tight controls, and mechanics that do alter the way you play, making you take your time picking your shots or keeping your head down during a firefight actually make this game worth while. A must have
