it's rare to see a good reboot nowadays

The Tomb Raider 2013 reboot is a two face coin. On one side, it's an amazing game, no doubt about that. It's an action adventure game, with platforming and puzzles, similar to the Uncharted series. And you can see it almost as a competitor. The story tells the origin of Lara Croft as a tomb raider, through survival. The game has a decent story, characters and music, good graphics and fluid gameplay. What i really liked were the unique sequences that this game has, which are plenty and intense. If you only play it for the story, it feels more like a movie, which isn't that bad here. If you try to do 100%, the extra exploration needed will make it feel more like a game. The game quality is consistent, being great from beginning to end. Now for the other side of the coin. To put it simply: this isn't a Tomb Raider game. The main series games are also similar, but they put a lot of attention in it's puzzles. I'm not gonna criticize the straight platforming of this reboot, but the lack of challenging puzzles really hurts this game. You'll solve most of them in a few minutes, and many are optional. Really? Even the hardest ones won't take more than 10 minutes to solve (there were 2 or 3 of these). And to make things easier, the game has an in-game hint system, showing where you need to go, which objects you can interact with, and more, effectively guiding you through the whole game if you like. There should at least be a mode in which this system was permanently disabled for purists. Basically, the main challenge of the previous titles are gone, creating an identity crisis. So, should you play this game? Absolutely. It's an amazing title, gripping you the entire journey. But don't think of it as a "true" Tomb Raider game, otherwise you'll be disappointed.

Tomb Raider Redone Right

While the original Tomb Raider games were good, and a lot of purists will claim they were better because of certain things, I have to say these new Tomb Raider games are a lot better. Not just in graphics and gameplay, but everything about the game is just better. If you are one of the people who does complain about the look of the new Lara Croft, let me just ask this, have you tried these games? If not, you really need to give them a chance because they will simply blow you away. There was so much attention to detail that it is hard finding anything not enjoyable in this game, so give it a try.

Back on a right track!

Tomb Raider is an excellent reboot of the long going series starring Lara Croft, probably the most well-known female game character. This time we again get to know Lara past but unlike older games, this one is pure gold as the developers put so much love and effort into creating this game it's simply amazing. It's a fresh take on long-running series. Try it.

Am I Just Crazy For Not Liking This Game?

I was pretty excited to play this game, but as I got into Tomb Raider, I found myself woefully disappointed. The first couple of hours are certainly promising as you are thrust into a survival scenario where you have to use your bow, wits, and what little supplies you can scavenge to make it. However, I would suggest not playing past the two hour mark as Tomb Raider devolves into a generic, third-person, action game, with child like puzzles that take way too long to get to, and a cast of main and supporting characters that are as bare bones as possible, and only serve as cheap emotional heart string pullers (even though most of them barely even get a few lines). If I were to suggest a game series that actually got started by copying the format of Tomb Raider games, I would suggest the Uncharted series. The first three games were released before Tomb Raider (2013) and they all do the formula better, throwing out the survival aspect for a fun and engaging story, with interesting puzzles and lovable characters.

Amazing

This game is not only a perfect reboot, it's also excellent game on its own. There are not that many reboots without repeating the same old, done to death story of the first game/movie, here it's none of that, thankfully, and story here is really, really engaging. Graphics are amazing, sound and voice-acting is awesome, only bad things are some of the writing, like Lara feeling bad for the deer and while later slaughtering everything without remorse - it makes a great moment insignificant. Other than that, there are really great action set pieces, nice mix of stealth and shooting gameplay, it's a game that you can really feel the passion designers put into it. It's just a great fun. Just don't expect anything amazing from multiplayer, it's the weakest point of this game. Single player it's where it's at and it's one of the most engaging stories told in video games.
