Was a fun game even though it is very old...reminded me so much of the Mass Effect games, also from Bioware. The story was captivating and the dialogue was catchy. The character options are fun to choose from and having companions make it more engaging... All in all a fun and solid game for you star wars fans.
Easily one of Bioware's best PC RPG's. Still stands the test of time today, and has a great amount of replayability. Lots of characters and personalities, and a great story to boot with, back then, one of the best plot twists in gaming. The only flaws I could even think to mention are that there are too few force powers that are of any real use, and the light side has a mildly disappointing lack of any real combat oriented force powers. That being said, the game overall is one of my favorites, easily in my top 10 all-time. I highly encourage anyone who hasn't tried it yet to get it if you have even the slightest interest in rpg's or in star wars.
Wow, where do I begin?! This is the game that got me into RPGs. This is THE Star Wars game if you're a Star Wars fan. Even if you're not huge into the Star Wars EU, or huge into RPGs, just play this game through once and let it change your idea of what a great game can be. This is another game I owned shortly after it debuted on original Xbox. I still own this game somewhere on Xbox...Since then though I have purchased it twice for PC, once on my Mac, and once more for Android. Every so often will revisit this game just to play it through once. Starting out, the initial level/world is the most difficult. You find yourself stranded without a lot of information about the larger story arc. Once you get into the later levels you will fall in love with this game. You can travel to any planet you want, whenever you want. There is no shortage of side quests (you're even encouraged to complete the side quests given by your companions). There are certain mechanics and logic that I remember not working correctly, but you will find MASSIVE amounts of data about this online; message boards, fan sites, and the like. There are also many mods for this game online. The story line is fantastic. Without giving anything away, you'll be blown away by the plot twist. The graphics were great for back in the day and they still aren't too bad today. The combat may take a little getting used to but once you get the hang of it you'll be fine. This game is a classic. It will always be my original favorite RPG and Star Wars game. Definitely look into this game if you're even remotely interested in getting into RPGs or are any level a Star Wars fan. I continue to play this game in 2016 because it's that awesome. I truly believe you won't be disappointed with this game.
If I had to recommend one, and only one, video game for a person to play it would be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The game is a great RPG, if not the best. The story is not the simple copy paste that so many RPGs are these days. The story in this game makes you care and connect with the characters. From beginning to end, the player is held captive to the great writing of the golden days of Bioware. All of this with the fact that you, the player, choose which way the story progresses. Do you go the golden paragon of virtue following the Light Side and promoting Justice, or do you torture and coerce the people you meet for money and power? These are not empty choices, but change the outcome of the story. The second time I played through the game I did things different than my first play through, and boy was I surprised after what i thought I new how the game would progress. If you have not played this game buy it and play it. It will change the way you view all games, and become the new standard by which you measure games.
KOTOR is the greatest Star Wars game ever made. It's a choose your own adventure where your actions and choices determine your story and ending, and what the other characters think of you. It's possible to not even get all the playable characters in a single playthrough or lose them based on your decisions. Though I didn't see the plot twist in this game coming on my first playthrough, when you think back on the game as a whole, it's actually pretty obvious from the outset. The game is open world and has numerous planets and dozens of missions to complete, each of which can be finished in multiple ways. Everything you buy and equip your character with appears on screen so you see what you actually bought, unlike most games where it doesn't matter. The story and characters are amazing. The graphics are typical for Star Wars. The worlds are very creative and detailed, but there's a lot of wasted space and open areas with nothing going on. The battle system is fun, but turn based. It would have made for a better action based game rather than just inputting commands and waiting for your on screen character to execute them. There's never a dull moment in this game, even when you are just walking across the large, sometimes barren landscapes. Perhaps one day Disney will make the third KOTOR that we have always wanted and finally close down that massive cliffhanger from KOTOR 2. For now though, at least we have the highly replayable KOTOR and its lesser sequel.
