Now, I never did play much of this game back when it came out as I didn't have the patience for these types of games. But now as I've gotten older, I've begun to play more and more RTS games, especially those that blend in a bit of FPS, and I can see why people really love this game. The setting is rather interesting, taking place during the Cold War with a secret war going on between the USA and USSR over an alien-made alloy called Biometal that arrived on Earth via a meteorite, this strange alloy allowed both sides to create new destructive weapons of war, including hovertanks and devastating mech-like vehicles. Now, the game allows you at a certain point access to a constructor unit that lets you build defenses as well as resupply and repair stations and power plants much like in games like Command & Conquer and Starcraft, except of course in first person. The game also comes with support for the Steam Workshop, so you will have access to loads of new multiplayer maps made by the dedicated community as well as little mods that restore certain things that were left out like music and whatnot. This is most certainly well worth your time if you're looking for something a little bit different when it comes to RTS.
Playing this with my friend, this game is still fun despite it's age. The gameplay hasn't aged well but if you played it in the past, it's worth it just to relive those moments when you head a charge by yourself. Already have over 20 hours on this! Looking forward to playing with other people online!
Battlezone 98 Redux is an updated version of the original game with improved textures, lighting, HUD, etc for modern PCs. The gameplay combines vehicle combat and a strategy game where you build and manage units while having the ability to switch between what vehicle you control to take the fight to the enemy yourself. You will build units and structures, repair, and command units with different hotkeys, it all works well. Other than the visuals of the game being on the dated side, the story is about a war between the US and Soviets that has gone into space to fight over resources, with the usual cheesy dialogue that comes with such a conflict from a 90s game. It's the same fun gameplay that you will remember if you played it in the past with improved visuals, and is worth playing if it sounds interesting to you.
