Some good backgrounds end up being the games strongest feature

Legolas_Katarn

BeatBlasters III is an action platformer with some minor rhythm mechanics. You have a meter bouncing back and forth on the top of your screen and need to hold a button while hitting one of your three power buttons to give you resources to use them. Your powers include a shot, a jetpack jump, and a shield that can go around you to protect yourself or nearby things. Level can often have you trying to protect stationary or moving objects from enemy attacks with your shield power. Some of the level backgrounds look nice but the actual stage and enemy design just isn't interesting and there is nothing exciting about the combat, needing to charge your abilities just ends up feeling like a waste of time and for a game with some music related themes the actual soundtrack and sound effects are mediocre.
