Blood Bowl 2 is a ton of fun and is more of a strategy game than a sports game, with some mild RPG elements as well. It may feel like luck has more to do with your actions, as the dice rolls can completely ruin any plan you have, but part of the strategy is minimizing your chances to fail while maximizing the enemy team's. However, this can also lead to amazing plays if you're willing to take the risk. The various teams have diverse skillsets and it's always fun to kill an entire team of elves when they try to prance about. It's a challenging game that will drive you mad at times, but nothing feels better than when a plan comes together.
Blood Bowl 2 is what happens when Orks, Humans, Elves, and all the other races of Warhammer put down their swords and shields and stop trying to kill each other for the sake of world domination and instead try to kill each other for the sake of winning a football game. Blood Bowl 2 is not a sports game, despite the fact that it is all about people playing football. Blood Bowl 2 is first and foremost a turn-based strategy game, essentially what would happen if you took Warhammer miniatures and made them play a game of football, in video game form. Different characters have different stats and skills that can be combined and customized for different strategies, such as having a giant Rat Ogre run defense and act as a living wall to defend your smaller Skaven and make sure they get all the way down the field with the ball, or have a Troll toss a Goblin all the way down the field to grab the ball once your Ork piledrives the guy who currently has the ball into the afterlife. Players will get injured, if not killed, so you have to constantly change up your tactics to ensure victory, especially if your opponent decides to kill your star runner. Blood Bowl 2 is the sports game for people who hate playing sports games. It’s bloody, it’s hard, it even has a campaign mode with an actual story, but most of all it feels rewarding. But I have to dock it a few points for currently restricting two different races behind pre-order paywalls. That’s just unacceptable.
