Timeline of the project
In Cross of the Dutchman, you play as Pier, the farmer who turned into the commander of a Frisian army, an example for all people who were oppressed by the Saxon invaders. While leading the rebellion you will get to meet and befriend historical characters and let them join your cause for freedom!
You will explore the Frisian landscape as it was during the 16th century and experience first hand how people struggled to survive during these times of conflict. Travel to villages, farms, forests and other landmarks and collect and find the treasures and gold that is hidden all over Frisia.
Lead by example with your formidable sword which inspires fear and respect with even the toughest of enemies. The legend says that Pier was able to cut down multiple Saxon mercenaries with a single blow! (The sword is nowadays displayed in a museum in the Netherlands)

Cross of the Dutchman is about 3 hours long. The story isn't very good or memorable. The combat is very basic hack and slash. The whole game can be beaten with the left mouse button only, which is just sad. The biggest flaw with this game though is the control. You only use the mouse. The keyboard doesn't do anything other than change your special attack, assuming you buy some from the vendor in game. Your character gets stuck everywhere, on NPCs, trees, bushes, rocks, fences, crates, barrels, you name it. Despite this, the game doesn't crash and I didn't have any obvious glitches unless you count the bad controls. The game overall is very easy and has little exploration despite taking place in an open world. Everything is more or less a singular path. If you try to deviate, you will be greeted with a dead end and have to go all the way back around to get where you wanted to go. The missions are very generic and repetitive. You will fight wave after wave of enemies, with the waves getting larger the further into the game you get. There are several missions with time limits. But above all else, holy cow, this game has some horrible stealth segments. You have no control over the camera in this game at all. You will have to sneak past enemies, sometimes with time limits. There's no checkpoints, so you will be redoing them over and over until you nail the exact path the developers wanted you to take. What's really dumb is that the final stealth segment in particular, you will fight enemies, then have a forced stealth segment, followed immediately by more fighting, then another stealth segment. You seriously plow through hordes of enemies in this game, yet you are forced to play stealthy too? And in such rapid succession? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I personally wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. It's very generic, not very fun, and extremely repetitive. The stealth segments destroy the pacing of the game and play terrible and really ruin what could otherwise have been a somewhat decent game. I really wanted this game to be good, but sadly it just never does anything to stand out from the pack, and there are tons of hack and slash games that are more worthy of your time and money. On huge sale or in a bundle, I'd say go for it, otherwise you aren't missing anything.
This is the deluxe edition of the game. The music is simple brilliant and well matched to the game's style. The art and graphics are nice, and great to look at. The gameplay is hack and slash, with the occasional stealth part. There is a lot of nice historical part in the game which is informative and keeps things new and interesting. You don't get bored easily, there's always a sense of progress. There are also some neat achievements in the game. In the deluxe edition, you get the amazing Soundtrack, and a prinatable Papercraft model for you, an Artbook, which is lovely, and the Project Timeline for those interested. Worth the extra money for these goodies. Overall, 9/10, must try.
