In Cross of the Dutchman, you play as Pier, the farmer who turned into the commander of a Frisian army, an example for all people who were oppressed by the Saxon invaders. While leading the rebellion you will get to meet and befriend historical characters and let them join your cause for freedom!
You will explore the Frisian landscape as it was during the 16th century and experience first hand how people struggled to survive during these times of conflict. Travel to villages, farms, forests and other landmarks and collect and find the treasures and gold that is hidden all over Frisia.
Lead by example with your formidable sword which inspires fear and respect with even the toughest of enemies. The legend says that Pier was able to cut down multiple Saxon mercenaries with a single blow! (The sword is nowadays displayed in a museum in the Netherlands)

My expectations for Cross of the Dutchman were really low I must say but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The gameplay is alright, nothing amazing or even great but the story is quite interesting and I found it well built. Some voice acting would have made it even better. Controls, at first, felt really weird but with time, you can get used to. Recommend it if you can catch with a nice discount.
Cross of the Dutchman is one of those games that sacrifices the gameplay to give priority to its narrative. Based on the story of the hero Fisson Pier Gerlofs Donia, who freed Frisia from the Saxons in the 16th century, the game limits its playful essence by telling its story. Therefore, those looking for a game with true gameplay mechanics might feel disappointed with the title, but those who seek an experience in the narrative, the game could offer enough to justify some of its flaws.
It failed to keep me playing for more than a few minutes. The developer promised to fix the bad combat but never did. More specifically, there is a pause every time you deliver a hit that breaks immersion. Story is not 100% accurate either
This is an action adventure game in a well made, colourful and atmospheric world. The music is simple brilliant and well matched to the game's style. The art and graphics are nice, and great to look at. The gameplay is hack and slash, with the occasional stealth part. There is a lot of nice historical part in the game which is informative and keeps things new and interesting. You don't get bored easily, there's always a sense of progress. There are also some neat achievements in the game. The game is stable. Overall, 9/10, must try.
