Dead Island Retro Revenge is a mixture of an endless runner and a beat em up game. Four buttons that allow you to attack low, middle, high, or behind you while your character is constantly moving forward and able to move between three different lanes. Some enemies can only be hit in certain spots and some can be hit in a way that knocks them into other enemies and obstacles. There are three different areas with eight levels each with different areas adding in new types of enemies that might attack you in certain ways or be vulnerable to certain attacks. You have a magic attack that destroys everything on screen and can build up the use of a power weapon that allows you to charge through everything. The story of the game has you going after your cat after he is taken from you and fighting the zombies, military, and anything else that gets in your way. It can be fun while it last though the first eight stages are very easy, it also doesn't seem to tell you which attacks enemies will block or counter or which will throw them at other enemies until you try each one on them.

Dead Island: Retro Revenge is a retro styled side scroller/runner game that is heavily timing based. As you run along you need to repeatedly whack zombies with your fists (or other weapon pickups), but since just spamming the attack button would be too easy, the developers smartly included a sort of combo system that involves hitting the zombies at a precise time in order to not die and lose your combo. I had a decent amount of fun with this game but it wasn't exactly groundbreaking and it's one of those things that you pick up and play for a few minutes as a small distraction every now and then and I could by no means see myself sitting down to play hours of this unlike many of the other games I play. All in all though, not a bad little game for the price. 75/100
