Learn about the long and prestigious history of the Disgaea series @ http://disgaea.us/
Disgaea is probably my favorite SRPG series ever. Even this first game had more depth than just about any other SRPG I've ever played, Final Fantasy Tactics included. Packed to the brim with ridiculous characters, enemies, situations and mechanics, I highly doubt you'd get bored with it. Want to throw enemies off the map? Sure. Want to dive into your weapon and kill enemies inside to make it stronger? Go for it. Want to pass a bill that forces the local shop to sell prescription lenses? Absolutely! Want to level up all your characters to Lv. 9999? Go right ahead! There's always something else to do and some other goal to strive for, even after you've beaten the main story of the game. If you want a good 60-100 hours of gameplay, you've found it.
The game is fun, has a funny head history and although not very long, if you're the type of person who likes to go deep in games, you have many other things to do. The main challenges and the most difficult are also outside the main story, which leaves us full of challenges and interested in continuing playing. One negative thing to my point of view is that as the characters are becoming stronger, their skills are more elaborate and take too long at the time of execution, should have an option to disable the effects and make faster attacks. Worth playing.
Disgaea was on early 2000 PS2 title that has now made its way to the PC with a few additional features, such as cards and achievements, and includes the additional content that the PSP remake added to the game. While I've never personally been much of a fan of the gameplay Disgaea gives you a very lengthy game, with funny characters, an interesting world, and unique mechanics such as the Dark Assembly. The Dark Assembly is where you have to present different proposals to change elements of the gameplay, get new characters, better items, etc to a group of senators that then vote on your proposal, bribing them with items that they like will help them see things your way. The PC version unfortunately launched with a lot of performance problems and very limited options, patches have been released that have fixed some issues but some things are still giving people issues. It's a great game with a large fanbase, and they seem to be fixing this version, if they get everything working right this will be a good way to get into the franchise. The digital art book includes sketches of the game's characters, it doesn't really feel worth $3.50-$5 as the series has had it's share of great art over the last 13 years and a few sketch images doesn't feel like that good of a release for the price.
