There are games that can be called classic when even with double digit number of years that came out are still playable, enjoyable to the fullest, and build decent fan base that are connected together forever. Sadly, Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death is not that kind of game. I remember it was much better when I played it first time. Now, when I try to play it again, it have many annoying issues and just doesn't feel right. I'm fan of old games but it isn't same like it was in 2003 (it was released much earlier than is said on website). Maybe if you never played it and also love old games, you can give it a try. Also hard Judge Dredd fans might enjoy this game but otherwise don't try it. You will be only disappointed.
If you are looking for a quick shooting game where you just gun down bad guys then this is the game right here. This game offers nothing else besides the fact that you can aimlessly kill of the entire enemy factions without breaking a sweat. The game set in a really colorful world that fans of Dredd might like but that is all. The game is a very generic shooter where you just run and gun through the entire map until you reach to the next one where you do the same thing. The multiplayer aspect, if it is still alive, hosts the same generic modes that you can find in other shooting games. If you are a Dredd fans then give this a shot, if not, you might want to look else where for a quality shooter.
Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death is directly made from 2000 AD popular and long running comic book series. The graphic style and the characters are more closer to they comic book one, then the movies will ever have. I finished Judge Dredd more then most of my favorite games, if you fan of Dredd you must feel the same way. The game only negative is it's length. Can be beaten around 5-6 hours and sadly the multiplayer and co-op are long dead. But there's action mode, which more like a challenge room/survivor type of maps. The game sets in Mega City One at the third decade of the 22nd century, you play Judge Dredd the most toughest and stone cold judge. You will face punks, gangs, cultist, vampires, zombies, mad scientist and of course the Dark Judges. You also meet friendly faces, like Chief Judge Hershey and Cassandra Anderson from the PSI Division. In co-op mode your partner will be Rico. The gameplay is simple, you must arrest perps and uphold the law. That means you can't go rogue and kill innocents, if you do other judges come to hunt you down. You can use the classic Lawgiver pistol and all of it's ammo type. You can use alternate weapons taken from enemies and specific judge weapons a shotgun and a machine gun, which can be transformed to a sniper with a single mouse click. And you can throw some smoke grenade to neutralize enemies. You can even challenge them by taunting the enemies. That's the funniest thing, if you sneak behind a perp and challenge him you can spook him enough he will drop his weapon and surrender. When you arrest someone you will see the perp ID, guilt and sentence. The game graphics and it's style totally reflects the comic book. So it's dark, satirical and bloody, very bloody. Certain environment design could used a bit more polished, but it fits to Judge Dredd world perfectly. The voice-acting is quite good, especially Dredd voice. Sounds the music are good. If you're a fan of Judge Dredd you can't miss this game! If yo usaw the Sylvester Stallone movie or the new one you must buy this game.
Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death lives and dies on its licence. It’s 8$ atm and how justified even that price is really comes down to if you want a Dredd game or just an FPS. As an FPS it’s going to scratch nobody’s itch: it’s too limited, too buggy and too unfulfilling. As a Dredd game though, it’s worth a look. Fans of the character and the setting may just get the mileage from those things to enjoy the story mode in spite of its mechanical issues. Score (Sacrebleu il est nouveau!): As an FPS 5/10. As a Dredd Game: 7/10
Judge Dredd: Dredd Versus Death is a game that came out under the radar at the wrong time without anyone noticing. Personally i don't know anyone who played or even heard this game before i mentioned it and it's quite sad because this comic adaption is actually really decent. The best feature in this game is that you're playing a judge, you're the judge, the jury and often the executioner in one person. The protagonists power really lightens up the gameplay, you can arrest anyone on the streets (even with charges like loitering or smoking). Some NPCs will have a different opinion of course and draw a gun on you, then it's time for the firefight, but what's really great about this is, that you can still shoot the gun in his hand (thus disarming him) and arrest him after. This is by far the best way to play this game, killing as little enemies as possible and arresting most of them (you'll also get a better rank for this at the end of each level and unlock more stuff). The story is also interesting and runs on multiple threads, it takes place in Mega City One in the year 2122 which is a really diverse place, you'll get to explore docks, malls, dirty hideout and streets, just to name a few. One more thing that has to be mentioned is the soundtrack and the voice acting, both of which are top-notch. Sadly the game is really short, it can be easily finished in 4 to 5 hours, but that shouldn't stop anyone from this unique experience.
