Max Payne 3 holds up quite nicely in 2017

I bought Max Payne 3 Complete Pack in the Summer and I have already put nearly into 60 hours into it. But honestly the game is so much fun, it just feels like a lot less. The character movement and animations, the variety of weapons and the accuracy of the shooting (which body part your bullets hit will make for a completely different outcome) make this one of the best third-person shooters out there, if not the very best. The single player campaign sees Max through a variety of settings and situations, the frentic action being supported by an engaging storyline and a number of cinematographic cutscenes that will make the player feel as if they were inside an action movie. The diversity of difficulty settings, aim modes (for gamepad users) and game modes (Story, Arcade, New York Minute) guarantee extensive replayability, an aspect which the game makes easier by allowing the player to redo any previously completed chapter starting from any checkpoint therein. Not any less impressive is the Multiplayer, which remains somewhat active to this day, especially in 'Large Teamdeathmatch' lobbies. Notable multiplayer modes include 'Gang Wars' (a plot-driven 5-round battle between 2 teams), 'Payne Killer' (one player gets to be Max with all his perks, another Max's ally Passos, while everyone else will gun for them in an attempt to take their place), 'Last Stand' (a King of the Hill-like mode) and 'Dead Men Walking' (a co-op mode where players take on the role of Max and Passos). Multiplayer as a whole comes with an extensive number of characters/avatars, weapons, attachments and (player and weapon) ranks to unlock. The graphics are extraordinary, with excellent character models and stages. The stage damage is among the best I have ever seen in a videogame. The soundtrack is also top-notch, especially in the final story chapter. On the downside: (i) many cutscenes are unskippable even on a 2nd playthrough and in Arcade/New York Minute modes. (ii) Max will automatically always go back to his hand gun before any major fight scene, and (iii) 'Dead Men Walking' can currently only be played in one of the maps. Overall, an outstanding game.

Enjoyable shooter with way too many unskipable cutscenes.

The story is well done although sometimes it felt like I was watching a movie because of how many cut scenes this game has. I enjoyed the combat and had fun with the slow motion effects but the harder difficulties can be a real challenge. Max Payne 3 like many other games has a cover system but because of the sometimes slow animation it can lead to your death. Your health doesn't automatically regenerate so if you need to heal you have to use painkillers which are found throughout the level. The game looks really good and the character models look amazing. There is multiplayer but don't expect a lot of players. Overall its a fun game and I recommend it.

Max Payne 3

Max Payne 3 is a good follow-up for the Max Payne series. Feels like a movie at a lot of times, because the cutscenes are well made, last longer, and the whole thing goes smoothly as you follow the events, one after another. It's a solid shooter game, quite enjoyable, and if you played GTA V, you will know that the shooting mechanics are quite similar, if not, the same ones. Anyway, the campaign is good, lasts about 10 hours. There is also the Arcade Mode which has it's own way around it. Good one to do some challenges. The Multiplayer is not very very active like it used to be in all modes, but you can still play. I don't own the DLC's, but I guess the Season Pass could be the best option for that. I think that "Deathmatch Made In Heaven Pack" DLC is the best one and it offers CO OP too, but I might be wrong about which is better and all that. Generally as a game, it's a 'yes' at a sale, but opinions are plenty. Mine is: You like the two, old Max Payne games and you want more? Grab the game. In case you don't wanna risk it, because it might not be everyone's cup of tea, I'd say to look first at Youtube for some gameplay action and then think about it. Nonetheless, Max Payne delivers a good story, a good action time, lots of shooting. Minus: 1) Multiplayer is active, but not so much for every mode available. 2) Required to install Rockstar Games Social Club (Just my opinion about it) 3) Campaign is about 10 hours (I have a certain opinion about lengths of campaigns).

Very good storytelling and game mechanics

Smashingpain

Max Payne 3 was extremely diverse in its gunplay, and the mechanics of bullet-time was very enjoyable in both multiplayer and single player. The game is a bit dead nowadays multiplayer wise, but the single player will still be a great and wonderful experience.

Very well done

Loved the shooting, loved the comments, loved the game. Right from the start, I decided to play this game on Hard Mode (I believe there is a harder mode after that one). And this game was hard. You can't stay out of cover and expect to stay alive like in other games. You really need to take cover and shoot at enemies while making sure you are not flanked. The story is good. Crude and strong, like it should be. Don't expect a James-Bond-ish story, this is no fairy tale. I loved that every time you picked health packs, Max would have a different comment depending on where you were playing. The graphics were awesome and I loved the cut-scenes with all the words showing on screen. A very nice game which is definitely worth playing.
