You are stranded in desolate Lakeview Woods, plunged into darkness. As you move across unfamiliar terrain your flashlight battery drains with each passing second. Along the way you collect battery packs to keep your light burning bright so you don’t get devoured by the night.
But even greater danger lurks. “The Keeper” senses your presence in his woods. He watches and whispers secrets. You must unravel his puzzles to overcome your fear of the dark and bring back the light.
Fight the fright. Find the light.
Nyctophobia is a mystery adventure game ,it has a large open world map and your goal is to find your way through the big environments you're in like woods and and collect items you're supposed to find during night time before your flash light runs out of juice. no enemies to speak of in this game , you just walk around holding your flash light in a lifeless place , you find skeletons and skulls laying about or hanged but that's it , the graphics aren't that impressive at all not to mention you have no options to modify them in any way in the menu , it's an indie game and I'm not expecting quality in graphics but at least i expected bugs to be less around , clipping issues and invisible walls are annoying, music overlaps sometimes and sometimes it's not there at all . gameplay wise it's not so bad , feels very atmospheric and has nice puzzles ,the issues break the immersion but it's a nice game , a little problem with the batteries you find is that there are too many of them , it should be less and far in between to increase the tension during gameplay, if it's on sale then it's a good game to try out , but at it's current buggy state you should only pick it up at a sale .
Preview rant: I rarely give games such low reviews, since I feel in one way or another every game has redeemable features, or maybe interesting ideas, but unfortunately this is not the case here. The Review itself: The game is very short, it can be finished in about 10 mins (and there's absolutely nothing else to do, except unlock 4 achievements), and even then those 10 minutes feel like they were artificially extended. You see, the game itself is made up of really 3 or 4 distinguishable "areas",which are REALLY really short themselves (I'm talking a room-lenght area) which are, a lake, a mine field, a train station (actually train room) and a river/lake. Those areas are spread out on a HUGE repetitive map, where you have pretty much nothing to do/look at. The game itself can be summarized as you controlling a person in a FPS who is afraid of the dark, stranded on some sort of forest. You have a flashlight and you are walking on a huge repetitive map, there are batteries for your flashlight (that look dramatically out of place) spread out all over the map (even tho you are never really in any real danger of running out of them), and you must travel from one area to another finding an item on each of them so the final area (a portal to a different version of the same forest) where you encounter "the boss" (which is the only enemy/threat you will find in the game) and there you must run away from him/it "X" amount of distance and then the game ends. There are bits and pieces of a storyline but it doesn't make any sense, in fact everything feels out of place and disjointed. There's aIso a fair amount of bugs (like walking through walls, clipping issues and disappearing objects for example) to round up the experience. User interface is clunky to say the least, and even the font used feels low budget. All in all, it's a very bad game, and couldn't find any clever ideas or fun gameplay. Literally look at the screenshots and you will see everything the game has to offer. I'd stay far away from this one.
