Reviews for Sid Meier's Ace Patrol

Very fortunate surprise.

I got this by accident in some bundle, installed and run (mainly for collectors cards) and what was my surprise when the five minutes of gameplay that I planned end up in me beating the entire British campaign and I probably will not stop there. The game may seem initially poor in terms of context, but as our pilots develop more and more maneuvers, we get new planes and improvements, which makes the game more and more interesting. As usual, the game signed by Sid Meier's gave me a lot of fun and satisfaction on my part I can only recommend.

Historically accurate planes, but watch out! If you play on intergrated graphics it will speed up the fan and get quite toasty. Runs well otherwise, and Windows 8 works the best surprisingly. My only downside is that if an enemy is behind you, you cannot, and I repeat, CANNOT escape him unless your other guy shoots him down. Deadlock basically :| But fun and easy to beat, that rarely happens anyway

Sid Meier's Indie

It is not a 4X grand startegy as some people might had thought, for some myterious reason. If you can look past that "fault", it is a nice little tactical TBS game. Nothing too fancy, with maybe a little rough difficulty curve, especially with the – true to the fact – imbalance of different era planes. My biggest problem was the very few pre-rendered manouver animations that sometimes doesn't fit the needed angle of attack so it looks like WWI planes firing in Star Trek like arches. That was a little painfull to watch and maybe the main reason why i tried just one nation. Also the achievements are totally garbages lacking any ideas. Still, picking this up for a euro or two well worth it, not for the name but for the fun little game.

Ace Patrol Review

Ace Patrol is a decent strategy game. It's turn-based but with a twist. Your airplanes (the units) are affected by momentum and can only move certain ways. Your pilots then learn special moves to make them move certain ways. This is a nice unique feature because it is different from other games. However this feature is also the games biggest flaw. Due to the fact that you can not see where you can move in the next turn and when you can attack it can get hard to plan ahead. It's not an issue in most cases however sometimes it is annoying because you were wrong. Additionally i would have loved to have more units on each stage. But it is still fun. I recommend this game. You haven't lost much if you don't like it. m0rogfar

This is a really fun turn based strategy flight-based game. With that being said, if you are familiar with other Sid Meier games, specifically the Civilization series, it is like that... for airplanes! It's a really cool concept that is fairly easy to grasp and get into without much hassle. The mechanics are fairly simple and intuitive allowing one to jump in and start playing with not much of a learning curve required. The graphics are a little bit "cartoony" and can seem a little bit outdated but still do a great job for what is required. Seeing as how it is a turn based game, and not a flight simulator, the finer environmental details don't seem as important anyhow. Overall it's a fun and simple twist on the turn based strategy genre and will keep you entertained! Definitely worth the price tag, especially if you pick it up on sale when it usually drops pretty low.
