The new mario

jpollard74

Simple but challenging, sleeping valley presents a decent attempt at filling the hole left by the lack of any real new mario games. Sure, the game has some simple mechanics and the controls are easy enough to grasp, however; the game can sometimes feel unintuitive and as if the game is a simple direct port from what feels like a nintendo DS game. It feels rather out of place in a bustling market of PC games, and the developers could possibly be better off releasing it as a mobile game (that seems to be the new DS game platform nowadays).

A somewhat interesting concept

Legolas_Katarn

Sleeping Valley borrows the gameplay and graphic style of games like Super Meat Boy and Limbo, the unique feature of the game being to avoid anything white. You get one life but can keep retrying stages and touching white hazards will kill you, this can be somewhat interesting as there are things in the environment that aren't white that you would normally associate with a hazard in platformers that won't kill you here. The music is just a quite theme meant more to create atmosphere but the game isn't interesting enough for it to work well and the lack of more exciting music can make the game feel a bit dull, if not for the high level of difficulty and somewhat cheap deaths that can be found in certain areas. The controls are a bit strange with you not being able to effect your movement when you jump, that can be normal but it goes beyond changing direction, any movement at all in one direction will lock your jump to that continuous movement. I've played worse low price platformers but there's not much reason to try this one out.

You Only Live Once

baconiscrispy

Sleeping Valley has a misleading title, because sleeping will be the last thing on your mind while playing this game. Your job is to navigate a character in a platformer environment, but if you happen to mess up you'll have to restart from the beginning. Because of the amount you'll be failing, the replay value is quite high, and with simple controls and a pleasant art style, this is the kind of game you'd end up playing if you're feeling casual. My only complaint would be that there's not much depth to this game, but other than that it's worth a whirl for the asking price.
