Dive into a deep story of corruption, crime and intrigue. Take the role of gritty Police Chief Jack Boyd, and come face to face with the ugly underbelly of Freeburg, a city spiraling the drain. Will Jack reach his retirement with a nice stack of bills, or will he end up broken ... or worse?
Manage your staff, respond to emergencies, and investigate crimes in a city on the brink of chaos. The mafia underworld maneuvers behind the scenes, sinking their claws ever deeper into the city, even as the mayor is ready to exploit every situation to his political advantage.
Choose your approach to each situation as it unfolds. Sometimes you'll be responding to a developing crisis at a crime scene, or negotiating with Freeburg's crime bosses. Sometimes you'll find yourself dodging questions in the press room, or even the occasional cross-examination in the witness box. Can you keep this pressure cooker from exploding, at least for long enough to stash away a nice retirement nest egg?
Your mission is clear: make $500,000 in 180 days, before Jack Boyd reaches retirement. How? That's up to you!
Decisions, decisions! This Is the Police is all about a dark story and how you react to it. Whatever you decide, your choices will influence the game - and the fate of Jack Boyd.
The Good, the Bad, and... the Ugly? The Chief of Freeburg's Police Department deals with all kind of people. It is up to you to find the bad guys, and decide how to deal with them.
Carry out your duties. As head of Freeburg PD, Jack deals with all sorts of challenges every day: responding to emergencies, managing his officers, defending the department against City Hall and a corrupt mayor, and much more.
A game focused mostly on the story which draws you in from the start. The gameplay is ok but you dont have control of a moving character, its all based on point and click, drag n drop management/strategy skills to keep your job afloat and to progress through the story, you have to control things like staff levels and respond to 911 calls and use your best strategy plan on a daily basis, which can be tough at times but good when it all works out well, but later on i feel the actual gameplay does get a little tedious or even boring as it doesnt tend to change a great deal, you kinda get stuck in the same routine, pretty much how rl work is. But i would have liked to have had more choices to make within the actual gameplay that impacts the game or any previous choices, something that could completely change my direction or completly change the way people feel towards me in an instant, this could change things from being tedious or boring to "holy ???? what did i just do" and bam your back on it again, but i feel the gameplay only affected progress and not the actual direction you were going, which was a shame. As for the story i actually enjoyed it for the most part, i was kinda hooked from the get go and aside from the long periods of gameplay i was still interested past the halfway mark, so it isn't a bad story really, the biggest let down for me though was the ending, it all seemed to end so suddenly and I don't know why I was just expecting something more, it was just lacking slightly, maybe to leave room for more? ...who knows. Overall id say its worth playing through just the once and grabbing the achievements along the way, but after that theres no real replay value, its not a bad game it has been well made, just lacking slightly in some departments but i did enjoy it none the less.
Pros -Variety of character faces -Enjoyable, on-your-feet gameplay -Pretty darn good story and AMAZING voice actors -Interesting moral choices Cons -Officers go against you arbitrarily (and sometimes your best ones) -Replayability is annoying because you get the exact same officers and exact same missions -Didn't feel that I was working toward anything besides the end of the story -After awhile, the missions got old
Played half of it, I will save the rest for a rainy day. Great game, lovely small indie title. Nice to just lean back to and have some fun on a rainy day with a warm drink in your hand. Highly recommend it.
Out of the hours I've played this game, I can say that it was well worth the price. It's a fun game that has you make decisions, but it also challenges your morality and ethics. Very simple game, gives good hours of gameplay, and worth the amount.
If you had asked me my opinion on my first day or two playing it, I would have hands down said yes, buy this and play this. It?s an atmospheric strategy simulation, its got a decent story, and the cut scenes (although there are a lot) are enjoyable. I got my half million (your characters goal) in about half the time the game gives you. The game doesn't end there, but I wanted to see what other options did. There are some big decisions that change parts of the game. But when I went back and started it up again, I felt uneasy about the racist, homophobic, and misogynistic themes that I feel weren't addressed. This is a game about police, albeit set in a former time. But, because it is this day and age, this political climate, it could have been so much more, but it didn't try to be. That?s not necessarily a bad thing. A lot of gamers won?t notice and/or care. That?s fine. But for me, it brought my opinion of the game a little lower. I still recommend it if you like these kinds of games. It?s still enjoyable, I am stilling playing it through to the end.
