New Upgrades: Upgrade your ships systems with many more upgrades, and download new upgrades that make use of the new scripting engine designed specially for X². New Weapons: Add new weapons to your ship including the Ion Disruptor and Mass Driver, but also build factories that will develop these weapons and sell them to make a profit, expanding your own empire among the universe.
New Missions: Take part in missions offered to you on each stations bulletin board, make money by defending convoys and destroy incoming Xenon fleets intent on destroying everything in their path.
But above all else, help to defend the universe from the Khaak, before they kill everyone and everything they come across.
X2 is one of the best Space sim games out there, a single player EvE of sorts. The plot is cheesy, the voice acting is pretty bad but other than that the game is spelndid. a great open sandbox universe where you can explore, trade, fight and build massive space stations (including factories) you can ignore the main story and just proceed along the side missions, or ignore all missions altogether and attempt to create a trade empire, with a fleet of traders and factories generating insane revenues which can be used to buy massive capital ships, dock dozens of fighters in each capital ship and unleash them to purge all life from that area of the universe. Truly a great fun game
X2 expands and exceeds the story of its predecessor. On top of that, even with its expansion, the original pales in scope to this game. It adds more buying and selling options, more mining options, more missions and more varied scenarios, and more upgrades for your ships. This is a more demanding game, but it's still much less so than its visuals would make one believe. Most systems worth a couple hundred can run it with ease. So it's still accessible to most.
