Everything you need to know about LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is nearly here and fans of the games and the universe are no doubt about to poop bricks (get it) with excitement. This is basically being billed as the ultimate Star Wars game and after so many excellent entries in the series, it’s undoubtedly going to be a lot of fun. The LEGO games have a good reputation for being family-friendly games in terms of both content and approachability too, so these often make an excellent gateway into gaming for younger players.

If you’ve been looking forward to the game and want to make sure you know everything there is to know about LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, then you’re in the right place. We’re going to blitz through the release date, what platforms you can play the game on, a little bit about the gameplay, and even treat you to a trailer for sticking around until the end.

That’s a lot of information to get through, so strap yourself into your pod racer, grab your friendly football-shaped droid, and let’s get stuck into what you need to know about LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Release Date

When we said you didn’t have long to wait until the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga release date, we weren’t kidding. The game will be hitting digital shelves and physical stores on April 5th 2022. That’s literally next month, assuming you’re reading this in March. We’d be weirded out if you were reading it any sooner than then, because we’re only writing it in March.

The specific time will likely vary depending on where in the world you are, but as a lot of consoles now allow for pre-installing, keep an eye out for the ability to do so in the week or so leading up to the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga release date, so that you don’t have to wait around for too long to play it.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Platforms

So, we all know when the game is coming out, but what can you actually play it on? Well, you’ll be very happy to know that as long as you’re not expecting to play LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on mobile, you can play it on nearly every other possible device. The list of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga platforms is PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Now, do keep in mind that if you’re buying it on PlayStation or Xbox there may be upgrades to think about regarding cross-gen versions of the game, so always look into that if you happen to own an old-gen console and a shiny new one too.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Gameplay

In terms of what you’ll be doing in the various parts of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, you can expect a good mix of comedic violence, platforming, and fights as you’d always see in these games. One thing that really makes this particular game stand out is that it actually comprises the entirety of the Skywalker Sage (hence the name).

What that means is that you’ll be able to play through all nine films in this one game, and that’s a lot of lightsaber swinging and bloodline serendipity to get through. Each trilogy is divided into its own section, and because you’re unlikely to be playing the game for the story reveals, you can do this in any order you like and pick whichever trilogy you prefer when you start. From there, each of the films themselves is split into five missions, which means there are a whopping 45 levels in the game.

Alongside that, the combat has been bolstered a bit from previous games. That means that the characters with lightsabers will now be able to perform light and heavy attacks to mix up combos. Plus, there will be force characters, and characters that rely on ranged weapons will benefit from the new over-the-shoulder camera angle to allow them to feel a bit more unique and worthwhile. There will apparently be over 300 playable characters too, so your favourite should be among them somewhere.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga PC System Requirements

LEGO Star Wars games have a reputation of not being too punishing on the old computer and it’s looking like The Skywalker Saga will be no different. Here’s what you need to know to make sure your rig is beefy enough to go to a galaxy far, far away.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 750 Ti or Radeon HD 7850
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 40 GB available space

Recommended Requirements:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 780 or Radeon R9 290
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 40 GB available space

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga trailer

If all of those gameplay elements sound good, you can watch this trailer from August 2020. Just remember to ignore the release date it gives, because we’re way past that now. The trailer itself shows off a lot of actual gameplay. That means you’ll be able to enjoy some of the comedic moments that the games will have, see Yoda with a weird 80’s haircut, and also get a feel for some of the combat too.

Of particular note is the fact that there seems to be a fair bit of flying around in vehicles in the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga gameplay alongside the usual ground-level fighting and play. If what you’re after is a genuinely complete gaming experience set amongst the nine films that you know and love, then it looks a lot like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is going to scratch that itch, and then probably kill it dead so you’ll never feel it again. That’s a good thing, or at least, we’re pretty sure that’s a good thing.
