For some reason this August feels longer than most months and we’re not even halfway through it yet. Thankfully, the games news machine keeps on pumping out new announcements, trailers, and updates making sure that if nothing else, we’ve all got things to look forward to and stuff to be excited about.
So in the name of bringing a little joy into life, let’s take a look at the biggest gaming news stories from the last few weeks in the Green Man Gaming News Roundup.
Cancelled Duke Nukem Begins Video Released
To say the sequel to Duke Nukem 3D took a while to be released is an understatement, with several versions being developed, abandoned, and redeveloped. Now, we get to take a look at a slice of gaming history as Gregor Punchatz, modeler and animator, has released a ‘vertical slice’ video he helped make for the game back in 2008. At the time the game was titled Duke Nukem Begins, a prequel to the series which had a more third person take on the game. Of course in the end it didn’t see the light of day and we got Duke Nukem Forever instead, but it’s intriguing to see behind the curtain at what could’ve been.
Three Re-Releases or Remasters In the Works from Take-Two Interactive
During an investor presentation, Take-Two have confirmed that three unannounced ‘iterations of previously released titles’ are in the works, as spotted over at Resetera. What this means exactly we can only guess, but if rumours are true it may point to remasters or re-releases of games such as Grand Theft Auto 3 and its two spinoffs. If this is true, then we can’t wait to finally successfully follow that train once and for all.
Explore Mexico in 12 Minutes of Forza Horizon 5 Footage
The Forza Horizon series has recently grown to become a star in the racing world, with Forza Horizon 3 and 4 taking open world arcade racing to a brand new level both in terms of looks and popularity. Forza Horizon 5 is set in Mexico, complete with a giant volcano, and YouTuber Don Joweon Song has had the chance to explore it. Here’s 12 minutes of 4K exploration along the coastline in a 2020 Toyota Supra, time to soak up those rays.
Cookie Clicker to get Steam Release
Cookie Clicker, otherwise known in many houses as ‘why are you still clicking that damn thing’, is coming to Steam with a brand new version complete with achievements and a soundtrack by Minecraft composer C418. The grand-daddy of all idle games is still going strong on web and mobile, but that doesn’t mean you can’t fit another version of Cookie Clicker into your life. After all, there’s cookies to click, they won’t click themselves (until you unlock some cursors, that is).
Frontiers Expansion Teased for No Man’s Sky
In today’s news that’ll make you feel ancient, No Man’s Sky is five years old. To celebrate, developers Hello Games have released a celebration video which also teases the next free update. Titled Frontiers, we don’t have much more to go on just yet, but if previous updates are anything to go by then there may be big changes incoming, after all we’ve seen vehicles, VR, multiplayer, and much more added in the past.
Idris Elba Announced as Knuckles
Finally, we got a bit of casting news regarding the upcoming sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog film. Idris Elba confirmed over Twitter that he’ll be playing the red echidna himself, Knuckles. The followup to the surprisingly-decent Sonic the Hedgehog will be coming out in 2022 and at least we know one new character’s voice is in safe hands.
On that punchy note we’ll disappear off into the distance to hunt down more gaming news for the next Green Man Gaming News Roundup. Until then, why not head on over to our Community Forum and get chatting – we’d love to hear from you.
