Without further preamble, let’s dive into this week’s edition of the Green Man Gaming News Roundup.
Overwatch 2 PvP Changes Detailed
The upcoming Overwatch 2 is looking to shake things up in a variety of ways. In a recent livestream, Blizzard announced that the game’s PvP will change from a 6v6 mode to a 5v5 mode. Game director Aaron Keller had this to say about the smaller player count per match: “We have always tried to make our combat easy to read and very understandable, and even with all of the work that we’ve put into that, sometimes it’s just hard to track what 11 other players are doing on the battlefield. Removing two of those simplifies everything, and it allows players to understand everything that’s happening around them, and to be able to make better choices.” Whatever the reasoning, it means Overwatch 2 might look very different from the hero shooter we’ve grown to know and love, with more changes sure to be afoot.
Microsoft and Bethesda to Hold Joint Conference
According to a report in Le Figaro, Microsoft and Bethesda will be teaming up to present their updates and games together in a joint conference in June. Of course, Microsoft recently acquired Bethesda, so a joint conference simply makes sense. We don’t have a date for the conference other than ‘June’, but we’re sure to hear more in the coming days. Will we get our second look at The Elder Scrolls VI or Starfield? Only time will tell.
Portal Movie Still in the Works
You’d be forgiven for forgetting that a Portal movie is being made given that it’s been a while since we’ve heard a peep about it. Director JJ Abrams, speaking to IGN, has confirmed that it’s still under development at Warner Bros, with a script that’s actively being worked on right now. In addition, the Star Trek and Star Wars director also confirmed that he’s no longer involved with the upcoming Half-Life film.
Multiplayer Officially Coming to Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator
Multiplayer has been present in the Truck Simulator universe in some form for a while now, but this has always been unofficial and modded in. That’s all changed now, with developers SCS opening the gates to the new Convoy experimental game mode, allowing players to invite others into a shared game. There’s a fair few restrictions for this version, such as needing the same DLC for everyone playing and mods not being supported, but it’s a stepping stone to a true world of trucks.
Final Fantasy Soulslike May Be Incoming
The rumour mill is grinding hard over this one with sources coming forward over recent days to suggest that Square Enix may be working on a Dark Souls-esque action spinoff from Final Fantasy. Over on Fanbyte they appear to have confirmed this with their sources, with a tentative name for the game being Final Fantasy Origin and developer Team Ninja behind the helm. If this is true, it seems we’ll be hearing more about it at the upcoming E3 – exciting times for Final Fantasy fans.
New Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Leaked
And finally, how would you like a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game? Well you’re in luck, as Jess Magera, the drummer from CKY, seems to have accidentally confirmed that there’s one in the works. In a recent podcast the brother of Jackass legend Bam Margera stated that CKY would feature on “the new one coming out too”. Whoops!
With that it’s time for us to skate off into the dark world of news, gathering some more gaming info for you. Until next time in two weeks, why not head on over to our Community Forum and get talking.
