April’s nearly over and despite the world still running a little slower than normal, we’ve had a glut of gaming news. Almost more news than you can shake an Easter Egg at, not that you’d want to do that.
So as we dive headlong into May, let’s get you ready for the new month with all the news you might’ve missed in our latest Green Man Gaming News Roundup.
Respawn Entertainment Wins Oscar
By now we’re used to BAFTAs being handed out to games companies, but an Oscar? Respawn Entertainment, the company behind Apex Legends, Titanfall 2, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and the recent Medal of Honor entry, have picked up a golden statue at the 2021 Academy Awards. Their documentary about their VR game, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, picked up Best Documentary. Will this open the door for more videogame gongs? We’ll have to wait and see.
9,000 Player Games are Being Tested
How about 9,000 players in one multiplayer game? That’s the dream that Improbable and Midwinter Entertainment have tested out in their competitive survival shooter, Scavengers. Whilst 9,000 players aren’t the norm, an experimental multiplayer mode can host that many players at the same time. According to a preview over on PC Gamer, they got to try it out with 1,700 players at once, and it was a thing to behold.
GPU Shortage May End
If you’ve been struggling to find a new GPU for your system, know that there may be hope in sight. The main reason for the lack of GPUs has been their usage as cryptocurrency miners, making them ideal for snapping up by various mining organisations. Now, Bitmain’s ASIC Antminer E9 Ethereum dedicated miner has been put through its paces which mines with the power of 32 GeForce RTX 3080s put together, and it does it without a dedicated GPU. Maybe, just maybe, consumers will be able to get their hands on GPUs soon.
Locked & Loaded Update Detailed for Fallout 76
Fallout 76 has had its ups and downs, but recent updates have seen the multiplayer Fallout game firmly in the ‘up’ category. Now, the next update has been detailed via a video and accompanied article. Titled Locked & Loaded, the update will give players more options in how they play, with multiple stat and perk loadouts being able to be swapped out, and players able to own multiple camps. This means that players hitting the level cap in Fallout 76 might see a lot more options available to them when this update hits.
Windows 10 Update That Caused FPS Issues May Be Resolved
Rejoice, fellow Windows 10 users. A recent update that caused framerate issues for players with multiple monitors has been identified and fixed. Updates KB5001330 and KB5001337 seem to have been causing issues for many people, but now an update from Microsoft should see those automatically removed, and if you have Windows Update enabled, that should already have taken place by the time you read this. So if you’ve been experiencing issues recently, maybe now’s the time to jump back in-game.
Mister Men and Little Miss Assassin’s Creed Books Announced
And finally, in what’s probably the most bizarre pairing we’ve seen, a slew of new Mister Men and Little Miss books have been announced. Starring, of course, the characters from the long-running Assassin’s Creed series. A perfect fit, or a baffling decision? We’ll have to wait to check them out to decide.
On that historical note, that’s all the news we’ve got for you today. Until next time in two weeks, why not head on over to our Community Forum and have your say.
