This summer strategy fans will be able to get well and truly stuck into the next grand strategy game from Amplitude Studios. Humankind will see you taking command of civilisations and rewriting the entirety of human history. Customise your leaders, combine historical cultures and take your people from ancient times to the modern day. Progress through a number of eras learning new cultures and technologies as you go to shape the future for your people. There are a total of seven Humankind eras to play through, so let’s take a look at them.
Neolithic Era
The Neolithic era is where all games will start. Your civilisation will begin as a small tribe with very few units. This is where your journey begins and where you will start to shape the future for your people. At the end of a Humankind era, cultures can be adopted. These will also help to shape the direction you move into for your future.
Ancient Era
Your next era will be the Ancient era. When moving into this era you will be able to choose from 10 different cultures. This era will allow you to start constructing cities and research new technologies and even create a religion.
Classical Era
Once again moving to this era will open up new Humankind cultures for players to choose from. You will also gain access to new resources such as Iron which will be key in developing new technologies and advancing your overall civilisation.
Medieval Era
The medieval era will introduce you to such cultures as the Aztecs, Byzantines, Mongols and more. You will also gain access to technologies such as Theology, Alchemy, and Chivalry to name just a few.
Early Modern Era
By this point, your civilisation should be thriving. You should have a direction carved out for your destiny and you’re more than likely will know exactly what paths you’d like to take. The early modern era in Humankind will bring about such cultures as Joseon, Edo Japanese, Ottomans and Ming. There will also be new technologies such as Gunpowder Warfare, Siege Cannons and more.
Industrial Era
An era infamous for vast and rapid change, the industrial era will introduce you to strategic resources like coal and oil. Whilst also giving you the option of choosing British, French and German cultures. In the form of new technologies, players will gain access to electricity, steam engines, urban planning and many more.
Contemporary Era
Moving into an era resembling today you will see new strategic resources such as Aluminium and Uranium becoming available. Then there are brand new cultures like American, Soviets and Brazilian that you can choose to align with.
With each Humankind era introducing around ten brand new cultures to choose from there is no shortage of choice when developing your civilisation. One thing to note is that different empires can advance through eras at different paces. In some cases other civilisations may advance quicker than others.
You will also experience narrative events taking place during specific eras. These events will generally only occur during one or two eras and will bring about unique events for you to handle how you wish.
Humankind is shaping up to be an excellent strategy game with grand scale and choice.
