NBA 2K22 New Features – The Best New Features In NBA 2K22

With every new NBA 2K title comes a veritable raft of new features and this year’s entry, NBA 2K22, is no different. From improvements to MyTeam all the way through to the all new City modes and reworked seasons functionality, we’ll be letting you know about all the best new features in NBA 2K22.

The City – NBA 2K22’s Open World Online Hub

Arguably one of the most improved features of this year’s game, The City has been upgraded for NBA 2K22. Essentially an open world hub that exists as an interactive manifestation of NBA 2K22’s online community, the new City feature allows MyPlayer characters on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S to walk around a sizeable world, interacting with NPCs and taking on quests in a manner not too dissimilar from a traditional RPG. More than just a roaming hub, the City also allows players to get into matchmaking much quicker, with all manner of different modes and match types available for selection at a moment’s notice.

The 2K Cruise – A Different Online Hub For Other Platforms

Though the City mode is only available in the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game, there is an alternative for folks who are intending to shoot hoops on the PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions of NBA 2K22. A more narrowly focused online hub, the 2K Cruise not only allows players to participate in a range of special events, but also an array of limited time availability shoreside events as well.

The Return Of MyTeam: Draft

Returning to NBA 2K22 on all platforms, MyTeam: Draft has players cherry picking top rated players in order to formulate their dream squad. Even better still, players that compete with their teams that have been created via the MyTeam: Draft function will gain additional awards for their team to boot.

Console Cross-gen Progress Transfer

Even though the last-gen and current-gen versions of NBA 2K22 are different in terms of their online hubs and visuals, you’ll still be able to carry your progress across. This means if you’ve been putting hundreds of hours into NBA 2K22, all of that MyTeam progress (including your MyTeam Point, Token and VC wallet balances) can be effortlessly transferred from PS4 to PS5 and from Xbox One to the Xbox Series X and S consoles respectively.

Seasons Post-Launch Content

Effectively a faucet of content, NBA 2K22’s Seasons mode will provide oodles of new matches, players and much more after launch. Generously stuffed with rewards and special objectives for MyTeam, Seasons will ensure that NBA 2K22 doesn’t become stale months after release.

Reworked Offensive Gameplay

One of the best new NBA 2K22 features is the effort that has been put into reworking the on the court offensive gameplay. With a new skill-based focus on signature moves, combos, dunking in traffic and much more besides, when you’re pushing the opposition in NBA 2K22 it’ll feel much more like a rewarding, skill-based endeavour in such a way that feels completely fresh and new for the NBA 2K series.

Improved Defensive Gameplay

Likewise, on the court defensive gameplay has seen something of a facelift too. Primarily focused on reworking the shot and blocking system, now making those shots and blocking them feels much more skill-based than before, with a series of much more precise controller inputs making players feel more in control as a result.

Scribbling about videogames since 2005, John-Paul Jones first stoked his love for the industry with the Atari 65XE at the age of four before proceeding onto the ZX Spectrum, Amiga and beyond. These days, he finds himself unreasonably excited about Sega's Yakuza franchise, foreign cinema and generally trying to keep his trio of sausage dogs from burning his house down. Clearly, he is living his best life right now.
