If you’ve played an NBA 2K game since NBA 2K10 you’ll be familiar with the MyCAREER mode. This single-player career mode lets you build your own player and take them to the top, with the eventual goal of being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Since NBA 2K14 the MyCAREER mode has included story elements, with voice acting, choices, and much more to fully round out a story-driven, single player experience.
Now, with NBA 2K22 on the horizon, MyCAREER is getting its biggest revamp to date, with a host of new features and changes that are sure to make it an entirely unique experience.
NBA 2k22 MyCAREER Changes
There’s already been a lot of variation in MyCAREER over the years, from NBA 2K16’s linear story provided by Spike Lee to NBA 2K17’s greater focus on the on-court action. Now, however, in NBA 2K22, we may be seeing the MyCAREER mode become a more 360 degrees look at being an NBA player in the modern world.
The biggest change relates to opportunities off the court. Your NBA 2K22 MyCAREER player will have hidden talents that you can explore to make their mark on the world and further their career. Players will be able to explore side ventures as they progress through the mode. Instead of just focusing on basketball, you’ll be able to take a look at many of the opportunities available to NBA players. These can range from diving into the world of fashion, putting your name on new clothing lines and working to promote them, to getting into the hip-hop business as a rapper. These help build a bigger picture of what it means to be a basketball player, as the action doesn’t stop once you step off the court.
Players will also have access to a centralised hub which will grow and change as your character does. This home will represent not only your character and how they’ve progressed, but the choices you’ve made along the way. We don’t have many details about what these will entail, but it’s not hard to imagine if you enter the rap game that you’ll have a few gold records on your walls or some other mementoes from your side ventures.
In addition, there will be a greater focus on bringing The City to life and integrating it into the MyCAREER mode. You’ll be able to explore The City, see new faces, meet new people, and see the bustling city come to life. One of the previous criticisms of The City was its relative emptiness, 2K have taken this feedback on board and seem to have worked to make The City feel like a metropolis, filled with other people.
MyCAREER Exclusivity
There is one caveat related to these large changes to the MyCAREER mode; they will be largely exclusive to next-generation consoles. Players on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X will have access to the new ventures, home, and larger integration of The City. Players on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC will have a more traditional experience, in line with MyCAREER modes present in previous years.
Overall, there’s some big changes incoming for this mode, and if you’re playing on next-generation consoles you’ll have a huge amount of new options to play with in NBA 2K22’s MyCARER mode.
