Life is Strange not only delivered some truly memorable story moments, but also did an amazing job of creating a world that felt real. Set to the melancholic tones of Piano Fire by Sparklehorse. Max and Chloe look to reconcile their friendships after years of being apart. The scene transports them back to easier, less complicated times. Chole letting loose and dancing in her bedroom brings a sense of nostalgia and longing for those better days. Max’s awkwardness starts to fade away and their fractured friendship is on the mend. It’s only a brief moment bathed in the orange glow like a summer’s sunset on the beach, before the moment is shattered, but it’s enough to engross us.
Saving Kate
Life is Strange is all about making choices in the moment. Trying to do the right thing, or what you feel might be the right thing. One of the Life is Strange best choices or series of choices leads to you saving Kate Marsh. Kate has long been bullied by her classmates and in the end it becomes too much. Based on your choices up to this point Max can save Kate. It’s a dark and emotional moment that brings to light the fragility of growing up and how tough it can be. Knowing you were able to alter the course for the better is one of the best feelings in the game.
Butterfly Effects
Life is Strange is known for its reality bending and timeline hopping events. One of the most poignant ones is when you can change William’s fate so that he doesn’t die in the car accident. The consequence of that is finding out that Chloe is paralysed in her own accident on a different timeline. Making this scene even more impactful is discovering that Chloe is slowly dying as a result and doesn’t have long left. It’s a brutal twist that sends you through a whole wave of emotions.
Rachel
Finally, we come to the investigation into the disappearance of Rachel. Everything about this, from the discovery of the dark room to the events surrounding the fate of Rachel is seared into our memories. Max’s braveness in the face of evil, combined with Chloe’s realisation of what’s happened, makes this not only one of the best and most impactful moments in Life is Strange, but one of the most memorable moments in any game.
