Ring of Elysium Gameplay

Set over a series of tropical islands beset by a natural disaster, Ring of Elysium is a frantic battle for survival. With an incoming ash storm spewed from a volcano set to eliminate all life on the Europa chain of islands, up to four players can escape on a waiting helicopter. The only problems are a limited supply of oxygen, and fifty nine other people who are all determined to be on that very same helicopter. The rules of Ring of Elysium are; survive, or die.

The first thing you’ll do in Ring of Elysium is create your own character, customising how you’ll be facing your foes on the islands of Europa. Unlike some other battle royale games, you’ll be making your own mark on the world instead of relying on pre-generated avatars. The exceptions to this are three special characters you can unlock through achieving certain conditions in-game.

Dropping into the game is done via a grid-based map system, allowing you to survey and choose exactly where you want to start. You can check out more about where best to start your game on our Ring of Elysium Europa map guide.

The ash descending on the world also diverges from other battle royale games, instead of a ring that closes in on the map different areas become closed off during play. You’ll need to use the game’s expansive vehicles and movement-based abilities such as mountain bikes and grappling hooks in order to stay one step ahead of the chaos. Using your mobility to the max is one of the essential rules of Elysium.

You might find your first games have a few bots thrown in the mix, these are there just to ease you in. After a few matches you’ll see that the Ring of Elysium bots drop off and you’re alone in the wilderness with real players. This all helps make Ring of Elysium one of the most accessible Battle Royale games out there. You might be wondering about the Ring of Elysium player count, and with over seven million downloads, you’ll never be short of a match or two.
