Batman Arkham Asylum was a game changer. It took the most iconic hero on the planet, who historically had a weak showing in gaming, and made the quintessential Batman experience. This is the birthplace of Free Flow combat, which just about every action game has ripped off since it's birth with its intuitive attacks, parries, dodges, stuns, and countering. This is the birthplace of Predator combat, which takes a strategic approach on the Dark Knight and shows us how he hunts his prey and dominates the environment. This is also the birthplace of compelling Batman storytelling. All of the villains act as they should. Batman approaches them all as he should. From the moment you get into this game to the very end, it just feels like a consistent and true Batman experience. My only criticism would be this game is incredibly linear, but the great story more than makes up for it. Without a doubt, this one game changed the entire landscape of gaming and how developers approach combat in games.
I think that this game is one of my favourite one with good story and with good combo so if you wanna try one of the batman games i recommend this for you
I don’t like superhero movies, I don’t like superhero games. I like Batman Arkham Asylum. It has one of the best combat systems in a video game, it has a good story and it is set in a characterful setting. Bosses are tough to defeat and you can’t lower the difficulty once you have begun so be wary of selecting the toughest difficultly. The gameplay experience is extended through searching for trophies, with clues from riddles for where to find them, in an open map. Even if you don’t like the Batman films or television show, you should buy this game.
This is the game with which a new Generation of Batman Games started. Comparing it to the later games it is a more linear experience without a too open world. While being a smaller world there is still a lot to experience both in enemy diversity and level design. The Boss fights are spot on and the side stuff is fun to do. The Game isn't to hard but still challenging if you play on the right level. Even after finishing the Story and all of the side content there is still more to do. They are offering a Challangemode in which you can show how good you became with the combos on some of the maps you already encountered on your normal playthrough. The Sidecontent is composed of riddles from... well The Riddler... and collectibles like audiotapes and other stuff. The fighting system is also a main attraction and very fun. Performance wise the game is great and i didn't have any issues.
Firstly, this is a game for anyone, whether you've read all the comics or have never even heard of the caped crusader. This game also has nice introductions for lesser known characters and villains to the people who know little about Batman. Of course, to make most people stay on the same page, you mainly go against the most famous villains such as Joker and The Riddler. If you played Origins first the game-play is pretty much the same, however there are less gadgets you use in a fight but you have the ability to throw people. the good thing about the Arkham games is that the combat system can be as complex as you like. You can get by just using your mouse with simple strikes and counters, and the occasional stun attack, or decide to do some more things such as your batarangs and batclaw, throw people, ground and special takedowns, and a few more things. The great thing about it is that it's easy to learn but difficult to know the perfect time to use it and keep your multiplier going. The story is definitely a good one, with no parts weaker than the other. Unlike the other two Arlham games, this is not as open-world, you can go where you like on the island, but buildings are generally closed off until the story requires you enter, there are also no side missions (excluding Riddler's challenges) but this is not a bad thing, as (at least for me) you want to continue with the story!
