As a concept, it's great. A tight focus on the U.S. Civil War, delays for your orders to get to the troops, cover, elevation, cannons and cavalry. Like an indie version of Total War. It's the execution that stinks. The graphics are literal blocks moving about, which could have been a design choice if it evoked a "Ken Burns documentary" vibe, but instead it just looks cheap. The enemy AI is passable, but the AI of your units is atrocious, piling up along a river, ignoring enemies, ignoring your orders. Some of this is intentional. The AI is programmed to ignore some of your orders if, say, a general is too aggressive to stay in one place, or too timid to charge the enemy. The problem is, you get no feedback that's what's happening, or if you just clicked wrong. The result, especially with the frantic pace of the game, is a chaotic mess. Save your money, wait for some major updates (if any more are indeed coming), or buy Ultimate General: Gettysburg instead.
