Deathsmiles is a horizontal bullet hell shoot em up shooter from Cave that was ported onto the 360 years ago and that has now come to the PC. The PC port comes with few addition save for a resolution setting, it still lists the 360 controller commands even if you don't have a controller plugged in. The game takes place in a gothic style setting that has young girls fighting demons and other monsters. Visually I don't believe the game's enemy design looks as good as some other Cave titles or more highly regarded shoot em ups, but both the enemy design and the backgrounds are significantly better than most of the recent shoot em ups you will see on the PC. The five different characters all have different shot styles and their own familiars, enemies will attack from the left as well as the right requiring you to fire in different directions, picking up dropped items will increase a counter that can be used to fire in a lock on mode or to activate a mode where your attacks become more powerful and you are allowed to run into enemies. The game is short, even by shoot em up standards. Worth picking up for fans of the genre.
