“Back in the earliest days, there was no sun and the world was dark. The heavens opened up and stars fell like beacons into the pitch black world, and they were known as “Embers”. Powerful and wise druids of a primordial race, “the Lightbringers," roamed the land searching for this luminous matter. They performed a ritual of awakening to call the “Embers” out of their deep sleep. Suddenly the world became bright, and the veil of darkness was lifted. The Embers were the embodiment of magical flame, light, and life, but as word spread about the sheer power of the Embers, they came to be hunted and captured…and so the War for Ember began…”

Very solid isometric RPG for a low price

Ember is an isometric fantasy rpg, similar in style to older titles like Icewind Dale or Baldurs Gate or to newer titles like Pillars of Eternity with the similar real time with pause combat. With the low price and an iOS release planned for the future the graphics and art style are surprisingly good, not only does the game itself look decent but there is some good attention to detail in the different areas the game takes you to. Standard attacks aren't too interesting but that is normal for the genre and there are some good effects for special moves. Sounds of combat, music, and voice acting are also good and much better quality than you would expect from a game of this price. There is a good variety of abilities to learn and crafting system that is more in depth than you would expect. As you explore the world you can find some interesting and well written books to expand on the game's lore. The story itself isn't the most original but the writing is good and the main quest is enjoyable, side quests often fit in nicely by being on the way and requiring you to be of the same strength as the main story so you won't find yourself running back and forth completing filler tasks. Some minor complains include not having as wide of variety of choices as you might want, which due to the low budget is somewhat hard to complain about, the limited Bioware style party size, and some genre problems that recent entries such as Pillars of Eternity have improved on such as an inventory system that doesn't always work well and the ability to frequently sleep even with enemies right in front of you. Ember is a solid entry into the genre for a very low price that is worth a look.

Unique Rpg

This is certainly a gorgeous RPG both in visuals as music. The storyline is intriguing and kept me wanting to keep playing to find out more about the Ember universe. It's fully open, which means you're not restricted by the game of where you can go on the map. This takes a bit getting used to as you might run into enemies you're certainly not ready to fight yet. Overall, the story is rich, simple, and fun. There is crafting from the get go as well and there a ton of new mechanics along the way. The exploration leaves nothing to be desired because of all the random quests, monsters, and more. Dont judge Ember by its cover because it?s not a bad game at all. It?s truly a hidden RPG gem.
