The Gauntlet formula used since back in the arcade days of 1985 still works well for mindless fun. Unfortunately, in this latest release the drab color pallet, bland characters, and simple levels bring the game down to mediocrity. Some of the levels are pseudo-randomized adding some replayability, but removing interesting design in the process. The pseudo random levels are made up of various level blocks hooked together in a different order each time you play. You'll fight hordes of mobs as you run through the levels looking for the exit. There are a few levels where your characters are being chased by an instant death enemy, which can be frustrating if you take a wrong turn or get stuck on a mob. The game plays smoothly and there is nothing technically wrong with the smooth combat. However, after playing for a while your mind will wander off to more interesting thoughts. This is just one of those games that does everything just fine, but doesn't stand out in any way. If your looking for some fun 1-4 player couch co-op in short spurts (a level or two at a time), then this game does work. There just aren't many games like this anymore. Try not to hit your friends in real life when they shoot they food. Recommended for mindless fun.
