This was a promising year for 2k as they made some pretty major gameplay improvements. New animation systems and an overhaul of the player archetypes. New player scans with individual body types. Hands down the smoothest feeling 2k in terms of player movement. But... you practically have to fork over 30$ to make progress in your my player. The grind for VC is incredibly lengthy in 2k18 and you can tell multiple systems were put in check to make sure you paid for VC. insane prices of skills and clothing, forget about customizing your looks because all VC will be going towards improving your 58 overall player. Another year where 2k does nothing but try to get as much money from you.
I played this title for about two hours. And while I do believe that the gameplay is smooth and the appearance in game is sharp, it's just not accessible without spending a considerable amount of money on in-game currency. Everything costs VC (Virtual Currency) in the latest NBA 2K installment. Hairstyles, accessories (to be expected), gameplay animations, any style that you can really think of has been potentially monetized. My other gripe is with the gamemode I play primarily, MyCareer. The cut scenes (which are fairly sloppy and annoying) are unable to be skipped, which is rather annoying, when you just want to play a game of basketball. I truly feel like this game is taking too much advantage of being the only option for PC gamers to have a quality basketball game and I hope the community outcry is enough to push changes for future installments.
