Colonize Mars and discover her secrets, with minimal casualties.
Welcome Home! The time has come to stake your claim on the Red Planet and build the first functioning human colonies on Mars! All you need are supplies, oxygen, decades of training, experience with sandstorms, and a can-do attitude to discover the purpose of those weird black cubes that appeared out of nowhere. With a bit of sprucing up, this place is going to be awesome!
Surviving Mars is a sci-fi city builder all about colonizing Mars and surviving the process. Choose a space agency for resources and financial support before determining a location for your colony. Build domes and infrastructure, research new possibilities and utilize drones to unlock more elaborate ways to shape and expand your settlement. Cultivate your own food, mine minerals or just relax by the bar after a hard day’s work. Most important of all, though, is keeping your colonists alive. Not an easy task on a strange new planet.
There will be challenges to overcome. Execute your strategy and improve your colony’s chances of survival while unlocking the mysteries of this alien world. Are you ready? Mars is waiting for you.
Building a sustainable colony in space:
Building on a planet not fit for human life challenges you to build a smart, functional colony. Bad planning isn’t about traffic jams, it’s about survival of your colonists. You really don’t want rolling blackouts in a city constructed in a place without oxygen.
Individually simulated colonists:
Each colonist is a unique individual with problems and strengths that influence the needs and behavior of the other colonists. Things can get really interesting if your chief scientists develops alcoholism after one too many long nights in the lab.
Futuristic Space Dome construction:
Retro-futuristic super structures housing colonists, factories and commercial buildings with their own “neighborhood personality.” Create colonies that value science over everything else, while tired workers drink their pay away at a local bar, or attempt a utopia among the stars.
Exploration of Mars’ secrets:
Inspired by the classic sci-fi of Asimov and Clarke, Surviving Mars holds many secrets. During each playthrough players may encounter one of Mars’ individually crafted mysteries. Uncovering these secrets might bring your colony great fortune, or terrible ruin. What is that sphere that manifested itself outside colony HUB B, and is it friendly?
Randomized research tree:
Combine static and random research through experimentation, which allows for a different experience for each journey through the game. Attain new scientific breakthroughs by exploring the uncharted terrain of Mars's surface.
Unique retro-futuristic aesthetic:
A sleek, modern take on the bright futurism of the 1960s. A time of exploration and adventure.
Expansive mod support:
Craft your own fantastic buildings, parks or even a mystery to share through Surviving Mars’s extensive and convenient modding tools. Share your finest creations with the community to build the perfect society.
We have been to the Red Planet in games many times. It is already almost like a second home to us. We have fought across its sandy surface, shooting aliens as we go. We have driven across it in moon buggies and torn down enemy installations. We have seen a Mars in the future - a future where humanity or aliens have colonised its surface. We have scarred it from our battles. One thing we have not done is take part in a peaceful colonisation of the giant sand sphere. This is where Surviving Mars comes in.
It might have that word, ‘surviving’, in the tile, but this is not a game about managing a character’s hunger and thirst as you build up your resources. It is not a survival game in the traditional sense. This is a strategy game where you hold the fate of an entire colony in your hands. And yes, you will have to manage their hunger and thirst while you are at it. In fact, you will have to manage pretty much everything as you lead humanity into its first steps to creating a new home among the stars.
Surviving Mars is a sci-fi building game where you choose a space agency, head to Mars, then manage the colonisation efforts on its surface. You build the buildings, place the sealed domes, research the tech, control the population, manage finances, and build your own utopia or dystopia on the planet’s surface.
You will erect domes to keep your citizens safe, you will find ways to grow produce, and you will develop technology such as drones to grow your efforts even more. You have to balance your resources with your expansion efforts, and you must be ready for anything if you wish to thrive in this harsh alien world.
While battling sandstorms and keeping your oxygen supplies it the right level, you will also be able to discover the mysteries of the planet and figure out the secrets behind those alien black cubes dotted around Mars. Your organisational skills will be tested to their limits as you expand and grow your colony, all while ensuring your colonists survive and thrive.
Inspired by the sci-fi of Asimov and Clarke, you are free to build this retro-styled future as you see fit. Do you want to make a paradise on this new home, or do you want to make money and uncover mysteries at the cost of your populace?
Fans of strategy games will have a lot to dig into when the mission launches. Discover hidden wonders, battle against unpredictable events like rolling blackouts and ferocious weather conditions. Manage the needs of your colonists or you could have to deal with an uprising.
You will find lessons in your failures. Whenever you want, you can call the whole thing off and fire up a new game. Get ready to try again and do it all more efficiently. Hopefully the real Mars is as forgiving when we finally get there, eh?
Surviving Mars releases on PC on March 15.
