Tidalis is a block-based puzzle game with casual appeal, hardcore depth, and an addictive new "streams" mechanic. The game is brimming over with riffs and variants on that core mechanic with 20 game modes, dozens of special blocks and items, and 115 levels in the adventure mode alone. The basic rules of the game are this: blocks fall down into the board and have a color and an arrow direction. If a stack of blocks exceeds the height of the board, you lose. In order to clear blocks, you must right-click and drag paths through the arrows to set up chain reactions of like-colored blocks.
If this sounds simple, that's because it is -- you'll be lining up lengthy chains within minutes. But you'll be surprised how much brainpower it takes to set up combos of multiple chains, and the many brainteaser-style puzzles include some real stumpers. Tidalis has co-op and competitive multiplayer modes (both online and offline); action-oriented modes and timer-less brainteasers; a lengthy, casual-friendly adventure mode; twenty unique game modes providing innumerable twists to the basic gameplay; dozens of special blocks and items; and over fifty minutes of beautiful music to go with the painterly art.
In short, several games' worth of content are built on top of this core mechanic, which you'll quickly find to be as iconic as it is novel.

I've had enough of puzzle games after Candy Crush. Can't recommend this for anyone unless you really want to get into a puzzle game. I feel that the developer made this game more for the hardcore puzzler than for someone who picked it up in a bundle!
Tidalis is a strange game. It's different than your standard matching game, as instead of switching tiles you're shooting streams in certain directions, with the stream then bouncing around based on the directions of the blocks. There are a TON of different game modes and level conditions, and while I appreciate the variety, by the end I was suffering from "new win condition" fatigue, as it seems like every two or three levels there's a new mechanic introduced, so you barely have time to get used to one thing before you're hit with another. And then there's the...story. There are a collection of weird looking creatures that level on the island of Tidalis, and each of them speaks with a small collection of weird noises. It was occasionally humorous, although much like the gameplay I was sort of sick of watching the cutscenes by the end of the game. Overall, not a bad game, and can sometimes be picked up for less than a buck, either on sale or part of a dollar bundle, so there's very little risk in picking this one up. Verdict: Lightly recommended.
If you are a puzzle game fanatic, you'll find a lot to love. Several modes, classic block matching action with a slight twist, and colorful, creative characters to guide you on your way. For anyone else, I can't really recommend it. I played about 2 hours, and haven't played since. I mean, it's solid. It does what you expect. But it doesn't really break any new ground. Seems like it just has a hard time finding it's niche in the world of gaming. It seems just a bit too complex for the casual market, and also far too simple for the hardcore gamer. It's more of a minigame than a full blown experience. Granted, it's cheap. But you get what you pay for.
I have played my fair share of puzzle games, and it is getting to the point where it is very difficult to find an inventive mechanic that has not been seen in every other puzzle game known to man. Tidalis manages the near-impossible feat of offering a refreshing game mechanic outside of the generic match-3 puzzler. Instead of that, Tidalis give you arrows on the blocks, and you must use the arrows to direct a path to other blocks of the same color. It sounds pretty simple when explained like that, but Tidalis constantly shakes things up by adding obstacles throughout the main modes to keep you on your toes. It's a refreshing mechanic, and I highly recommend it to anyone who frequently plays puzzle games.
Excellent puzzle game and I generally hate puzzle games. TONS of depth; more game modes than I care to count, a ~10 hour long campaign that challenges you at every turn by gradually increasing the difficulty, acclimating you to new modes and concepts while setting different victory conditions. If you bought this game because you're an AI War fan then you will not be disappointed (With Arcen you never will be) because this game does for puzzle games what AI War does for the RTS genre; it breaks every convention while adding a level of depth never before seen in this style of game
