Maybe it was the fact that people got to blow away Nazis. Maybe it was the sheer challenge of it all. For whatever reason, Wolfenstein 3D, pioneered the first-person shooter genre and brought its legendary creators, id Software, worldwide notoriety and numerous awards. In fact, The Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame recognized Wolfenstein 3D as helping to shape the overall direction of the computer gaming industry.

When the first-person shooter genre came into the computer game, games like Doom and Quack and Wolfenstein were the leading FPS-style, In 1992, Id Software introduced a 3D version of the game called Wolfenstein 3D, which also earned the title of FPS's father and, like Quake, achieved unsurpassed success.
The first time I played this game was on the 3DO game console. Now I decided to go through the original and, frankly, it did not make me feel nostalgic. Music is not particularly impressive, especially since it is looped back from the very beginning, if you open the main menu. Diversity in weapons is not here (only 4 types). Backpacks that would increase ammunition, too, are not here. What to say - 6 separate episodes and all. In each episode there are 9 main and one secret level. At every level 9, the boss appears: from the F?hrer generals to Hitler himself. Maybe others will find this version more interesting, but I prefer the ported version of this game.
This was made in a more innocent time...whatever that means. I can't imagine, what this game felt like, compared to the time, but it must've been brutal. Nowadays, seeing a bloody death is nothing special, and the gore here actually is rather mild. You have like 3 kinds of enemies, 4 kinds of weapons, and an envirement that actually isn't 3D. Seriously, you don1t even need the mouse, or you can play with just the mouse! The game itself is simple. You have to find keys, shoot nazis, and kill mecha hitler in the end. Can you say epic bossfight? There is no multiplayer though, which is a shame.
The Game my father has played before i was born, and i tried it.Wolfenstein 3d is the Grandfather of all first person shooters. It is fun and hard with simple controls and some different weapons, your main objective is to defeat all the nazis in the castle and kill the ultimate leader of them, a robotic Hitler, but in this game you can find a lot of secret rooms with supplies and points to rise your score,if you appreciate learning the history of fps, this game is made for you.
Such a great throw back to the 90's of pc gaming and a golden egg if you will of a classic. instant 100/100 cause i have played it many times and loved it from end to end. No matter if the game engine is dated it's still a great play and for a great sale price grab a copy :)!
