It’s already built up a bit of a cult following, and we’re all eagerly waiting to get our hands on it! From the co-creators of Dishonored and Prey comes Weird West; an immersive sim RPG set in an alternate Wild West era that has been totally reimagined with a dark fantasy twist. Expect to uncover dark tales as you explore The Stillwaters whilst managing your reputation and grabbing excellent loot along the way. Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about the Weird West video game.
Weird West Release Date
Weird West was originally due for a January 2022 release. However, that has now been pushed back to 31st March 2022. Developer WolfEye Studios has identified a few issues in the beta testing which need to be ironed out before release, which is refreshing in a world where many games get rushed out, warts and all. Sorry, you’ll have to wait just a little longer to get your hands on this one.
Platforms
Weird West will be released across a number of different platforms, including on Windows PC via Steam and GOG, Xbox Series S & X, Xbox One, as well as coming to Game Pass on Xbox. It will also be released on Playstation 5 and Playstation 4.
What is Weird West?
Weird West is set in a unique and stunning version of the Wild West where magic, mystery and more is very much present. You’ll face off against demons, sirens, gang members and many more other worldly creatures as you take control of five unique characters – a bounty hunter, pigman, archer, preacher and werewolf – and guide them through their stories. Along the way, you will be able to level them up unlocking new powerful abilities and skills.
Weird West is an action-RPG where your action will help shape the narrative of the game. The Twin-stick shooter style of the game will have you engaging in many gun fights. There is a freedom to combat allowing you to approach fights in multiple ways, and you can make use of cover and hop fences to gain new advantages. Additionally, you can use other parts of the environment, such as setting fires on wooden structures of grass.
This delightfully dark and spooky tale is all wrapped up in a beautiful art style inspired by French comic books.
The World of Weird West
As you complete storyline missions and side quests, the world will change around you. People will remember you and your actions. If you wanted to, you could roll into the nearest town and open fire; however, the townsfolk will remember that and may not be the most accommodating in the future. If you take a more passive and friendlier approach, you may find yourself on the receiving end of store discounts and generally friendlier folk.
More of the map will open up as you complete missions providing more opportunities to seek out your own adventures alongside the main story. But beware of ambushes as you travel the roads; many dangers are lurking in The Stillwaters. The game has freedom to it that will allow you to be at the controls for your journey, deciding where to go, who to help and who to fight. Just remember that those choices have consequences.
Weird West is looking like an extremely good game. We’re hoping that it will deliver dark stories, explosive action and unique characters that you’ll be able to invest your hard-earned time into and not end up disappointed.
