Autumn has come crawling back into our lives, at least in the Northern Hemisphere. The trees are beginning to shed their leaves, skeletons are being placed in many locations, and the autumnal gaming news keeps on coming. Get up to date with all the major news stories from the last two weeks in this, the Green Man Gaming News Roundup for 22nd September.
Windows 11 Health Check App Returns
Microsoft have re-enabled the Windows 11 Health check App, a tool you can download to see if your PC is ready for an upgrade to the next version of Windows. This was available earlier in the year but encountered some issues with some aberrant results being reported. Hopefully those are all now fixed and we can start to get an idea about what’s required for an upgrade.
Halo Infinite Test Weekends Starting Soon
It’s time to dive into Halo Infinite’s Deathmatch mode in two technical test weekends occurring over the next fortnight. Both weekends will focus on the game’s 4v4 Arena Mode, with the second weekend also opening up 12v12 Big Team Battles. Invites have already been sent out for the tests and you’ll be able to download the game client from 23rd September, with the first test opening on Friday the 24th.
Deltarune Chapter 2 Release for Free!
In true Undertale style, Deltarune Chapter 2 hasn’t just been announced; it’s been announced, released and will be free, making it a cornucopia of surprises. The other chapters won’t be free, says creator Toby Fox, but does confirm that three more are in the works. The reason Deltarune Chapter 2 is free? Because Toby Fox felt that “the world has been really tough for everybody recently.” Fair enough, really.
Jagged Alliance 3 Announced
Jagged Alliance wasn’t just a great turn-based tactics game; for many it defined turn-based tactics throughout the 1990s. Now, for the first time in 17 years, a new Jagged Alliance game has been announced. Jagged Alliance 3 is being worked on by Haemimont Games – the team behind several Tropico Games and Surviving Mars – meaning it’s got some serious experience behind it. We don’t have many more details to share just yet but if you’re a tactics game fan, this might be one to keep a close eye on.
Witcher 3 Quest Director Joins Riot
Whilst The Witcher 3 may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it is certainly a masterclass in quest design. The person heading up CD Projekt Red’s team creating those quests has now left the company for new shores. Announcing the move over on Twitter, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz stated that he’s now joined Riot Games to work on their new League of Legends MMO. Whilst we don’t know much about the MMO just yet, if nothing else we know the quests are in safe hands.
Discord Valued at $15 Billion
Sometimes numbers are bandied about that have no earthly meaning and in the case of Discord, their valuation certainly boggles the mind of this news writer. Bloomberg have reported that a new round of funding for the communication company has been completed, with the company being valued at $15 billion (nearly £11 billion). That’s a very big number. To put that in context, with $15 billion dollars in your pocket you could buy sports teams, several small nations, and maybe even your own fighter jet. Why not?
On that monetary note, we’re off to gather more gaming news for our next News Roundup. Until the next time, why not head on over to our Community Forum and get chatting – we’d love to hear from you.
