Amplitude Studios are aiming big with Humankind, a turn based strategy game that spans the entirety of human existence on our planet. You’ll shepherd your civilisation from ancient times to the modern era, aiming to have the largest impact on human culture and gather the most Fame.
As you play you’ll be able to switch between cultures as you advance through the eras, giving you tonnes of options through which to express how you want to play, and your vision of your civilisation.
In anticipation of the game’s release, here’s a look at all the cultures in Humankind.
Humankind Culture Gameplay Effects
When you enter a new era you’ll be able to select a new culture, each one has a trait that determines how it plays. These only affect the culture when you’re playing as it, with these effects being lost when you select a new culture.
Every Humankind culture will have one of the following traits:
- Aesthete – Focuses on earning Influence.
- Agrarian – Focuses on increasing population and growing food.
- Builder – Focuses on building and industry.
- Expansionist – Focuses on expanding territory.
- Merchant – Focuses on generating money.
- Militarist – Focuses on building up, and using, a large army.
- Scientist – Focuses on generation Science and unlocking new technologies.
In addition to these traits, your culture will also have a corresponding unit and constructable quarter unique to it. These units and quarters can only be built by that culture, but once they are in play can be used even after you have switched cultures.
Each culture also has a Legacy Trait which will have continual effects even after you now longer play as that culture, so choose wisely as your culture will have an effect on your entire game – not just for that particular era.
At the end of every era you have a choice whether or not to adopt or transcend. If you adopt, you’ll choose an entirely new culture, with brand new traits and units. If you transcend you will continue with your current culture, but with a boost to your Fame.
