Case Study – How we achieved a 412% ROI for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown

Nacon is a French video game publisher, famous for the Test Drive Unlimited series, dozens of official sports games, and several Warhammer titles.

They wanted to increase awareness of the game with new audiences, as well as ensuring that fans of the previous Test Drive games knew about the new release, and then converted into customers.

How we marketed Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown:

The Green Man Gaming Store

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown had a Super Homepage takeover, bringing hundreds of thousands of impressions whenever anyone visited the site.

The game was also promoted in our September Showcase, one of our monthly marketing activities that highlights great games we think our audience will love.

Beyond this, there was a banner for the game on the Green Man Gaming homepage carousel, and it was listed in the Featured Deals and New Games section, all helping keep the game top of mind for our community, resulting in over a thousand sales.

PPC Google Ads

Using a range of creatives we ran Google Ads across America, Canada, and Brazil, generating over 361,000 impressions and hundreds of conversions to the Green Man Gaming store.

Some ads we're targeted for impressions to boost awareness via Youtube and the Google display network and some we're focused on conversions bidding strategies via google Performance Max.

Paid Social Ads

We used our profiled data of people who purchased or wishlisted similar games alongside the platforms targeting tools. Everything was set to maximise conversions as the ads pointed to GMG store which means that our attribution clarity was much clearer due to the UTM tracking.

Our paid Reddit and Facebook ads yielded some of our lowest ever costs per click, allowing the budget to go even further, reaching over a 1.2 million impressions.

Email Marketing

We targeted opted-in customers who had wishlisted or purchased similar games from the Green Man Gaming Store, and ran three campaigns for pre-purchase, Gold Edition Early Access, and general release to a combined total of 381,000 potential customers.

Open and CTR rates we're above industry averages for such a targeted approach.

Discord Giveaway

We posted giveaway notices on our own Discord community, and across 271 other Discord servers, raising awareness and hype with tens of thousands of gamers a week prior to the game releasing. The winners of the game keys were then encouraging to share their screen shots on the community channel post release again to increase awareness and FOMO.

The campaign generated a combined total of 1.9 million impressions, driving a huge increase in awareness of the game.

Increased sales

The campaign resulted in thousands of sales globally. 33.4% of all units sold on the Green Man Gaming store were attributed to this campaign.

The campaign had an ROI of 412%, helping get the game into fifth gear with new fans.
