Case Study – How we boosted Gestalt: Steam & Cinder’s Steam Algorithm and delivered 177% ROI

Fireshine Games is a UK games publisher, famous for Corekeeper, Atomfall, Shadows of Doubt and Sniper Elite.

Gestalt: Steam & Cinder was a brand new IP in a genre rife with competition. Fireshine wanted to ensure a successful launch, hitting their sales targets but with only a very small indie budget.

The Green Man Gaming Store

Gestalt: Steam & Cinder was featured on the homepage carousel the Green Man Gaming store home page for one week, and was then featured on our Featured Deal and New Releases pages to give the indie title some spot light.

SEO

We wrote a customer facing blog post on the game, looking at the genre, gameplay, art style, and lore, helping raise awareness will also boosting their performance in organic search thanks to link-building and targeted keywords.

PPC Google Ads

On a very modest budget (less than £1000) we ran series of Google Ads across multiple territories, generating over 276,000 impressions for a very low cost-per-click £0.18.

All ads pointed to the Green Man Gaming store so that we could track with accuracy how many conversions we drove even breaking it down to which ad assets and by country.

Interestingly our Demand Gen campaign in the US drove the most impressions with 225,781, Clicks 1,748, Avg. CPC of £0.10. The avg. CPM was also the lowest on-demand gen at £0.79

Paid Social Ads

Again on a very modest budget (less than £1000) we also spun up some Reddit ads which cost the least in CPM £2.68, had a 0.36% CTR but drove the most amount of impressions.

Our Meta ads had very good levels of impressions which cost more in CPM however they converted into more sales with a very good 1.70% CTR.

Email Marketing

We sent a targeted email to over 125,000 core users who had played or wishlisted similar games, and included Gestalt: Steam and Cinder in six other round-up and new game email campaigns, resulting in over 1.4 million total impressions.

Discord

We posted about the game in our sales and hot deals channel with over 25,000 members, and published to 227 other servers.

We also ran a giveaway competition of 10 keys to increase awareness and engagement with the game. We asked our community why they wanted to win the game. Having some great responses:

Increased awareness

This small scale campaign generated a combined total of 1.9 million impressions, driving a huge increase in awareness of the game vs what they achieved via other PC gaming stores.

Increased sales

The campaign resulted in hundreds of sales far out performing targets with 43.8% of all sales attributed to this campaigns UTM tracked links.

Strong Ad ROI

The campaign had an ROI of 177%, showing positive growth and revenue.
