If you liked Westwood's classic, but can't play it, due to the difference in your operating system, or you'd like something better looking, this is your game! Act of War has a thrilling story and a gameplay that's very familiar, yet has tons of new ideas that make even normal skirmishes fun. I used to play this for months, just battling against increasingly more AI opponents. There is something greatly satisfying in watching a perfectly set up defensive line at work, while your bombers make sure the enemy base loses it's safety deposit. So, if you want a great online game, for a great price, that you can play with your friends, this one is for you.
I've played so many RTS games over the years that it really is hard to say which ones are best or not. But for whatever reason, whenever I go back and play Direct Action, I have a fantastic time. It is a relatively well polished game, the graphics are still very decent considering the age (of course they aren't as technically impressive as newer games, but they don't take away from the experience at all). I'm a big fan of more realistic RTS games, and Direct Action leans that way. It was very under-appreciated in its time, and now that it is updated for newer machines, it is a steal. Highly recommended!
This is a real time strategy game by Eugen Systems. The graphics are old and dated but still do the job, and sound is nice. The gameplay is easy to learn and a lot of fun, and there are a lot of unique units for every faction. The game has single player as well as multiplayer. Single player can be a bit easy while multiplayer is challenging. The AI is advanced and very well made. The story is basic but good and progressive. Overall, a very good if a bit old RTS game that every RTS fan should try, 8/10.
