Disgaea is a comedic turn based strategy game. The game has amusing characters and a lot of content. While the strategic gameplay itself isn't as interesting as some other titles you can make use of a large roster of character types. One of the more interesting features of the game is an assembly that you can call in an attempt to pass laws that will change some of the rules of the game, get stores to sell better items, give you access to certain features, etc. These assemblies include a lot of very strong characters that will either be for, against, or might appear neutral to your motion, the stronger character's votes are worth more and characters can be influenced by bribing them with items or fighting the ones that disagree with you. Content from the PSP remake Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness was also included in the game. When the game released on the PC it had some issues but patches seem to have taken care of the problems for most people. Disgaea 2 is very similar to the first game, a lighthearted and humorous self-referential turn based strategy game, with a lot of content, and likely a lot of grinding if you want to explore all of that content. Battles are fought by choosing your character and moving them in the order you want and can use queued orders for combo attacks. Everything is capable of being levelled up, you will unlock new classes or monsters units and stronger versions of those classes can be gained, you can level up abilities by using them to give you access to more powerful and costly versions with higher effects or more range, you can level up the equipment that your characters use. I've never been a big fan of the actual gameplay, the grindy nature of the game if you want to access higher level and end game content, and I didn't enjoy the characters as much as the ones in the first. A lot of content is also recycled. If you want an ok strategy game with some fun characters and a lot of content this will be a good purchase. The Digital Doods Edition includes the artbook for each game. Disgaea's digital artbook is 46 pages and Disgaea 2's book is 44 pages, both are more for character details than interesting artwork. It's not too interesting as it is mostly a shot of the character with some information about them and small sketches next to them with a few notes and some funny Prinny commentary about the character. If you are a fan they can be amusing but they are easily skipped if you already know about the characters, want physical art books, or are just a casual fan of the series.
