Harlan Ellison as the voice of the insane master computer, AM.
I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream takes place in a future were the world has been destroyed by the computer AM. But AM has kept five humans alive as his own personal play things. After 197 years of torture and suffering AM as finally given the five humans a chance to escape into eternity. It's a classic 90's point-n-click that?s a great play, even if you don't buy it out of nostalgia. The story is dark with various choices to make. Unlike most point-n-clicks, there are multiple ways to go about a puzzle and you can even fail the sequences in various ways. I would say this game is worth its great reputation as a classic and is defiantly worth putting a few hours in.
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream is a point and click adventure game based on the book of the same name but with different events, some character changes, and different possible endings. The game was written by the short story's author, Harlan Ellison, and he does a great job voicing the memorable antagonist of the game. The game is certainly one of the more memorable adventure games I have played from a combination of subject matter and antagonist but it is hurt by some poor gameplay design. There are some bugs, puzzles can have the traits of the worst most nonsensical elements of the time, and there can be some annoyances like not being able to interact or pick up objects until the plot allows you to do so. It's worth checking out if you are a fan of the author or the story it is based on or if you want to play a game with a darker story line.
I really liked this. The story was fantastic, and it actually inspired me to read the novel! If you like adventure, a good story, or point and click games, you will love I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream!
The game is point and click adventure game that puts player in shoes of 5 distinct characters that were saved by supercomputer AM from nuclear apocalypse just to be tormented and put for a trial for their sins. During the trials each character is faced with ‘moral choices' and decisions made by player have effect on ending of game. The strongest point of the game is story. Scrip for the game has been created by Harlan Ellison (author of the short story of the same name) and it is not a simple adaptation of source material but it expands it significantly. Main problem of program lies in glitches and lack of polish. Sometimes characters disappear after game is saved, or incorrect animation is shown when you are moving them. There is also unnecessary pixel hunting present that can ruin experience for some of people. All in all this is a must-have for adventure fans great introduction to works of Harlan Ellison.
If you fancy a good point and click adventure game with story that can make the hair behind your neck stands, then do not cast away your gaze from this game. Adapted from a famous short story of the same name, I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is a must for any adventure fans out there.
