Shadow of Mordor has a lot of systems from other games, mostly from Assasins Creed (parkour) and Batman series (fighting system), and that's okay cause they add one innovative feature: Nemesis system. Generally Nemesis creates new orcs with individual features, it also simulate fights of orcs, they can promote when they win or kill us. Nemesis makes that game is really random and that's awesome. I love this game.
Whether you will like the game will boil down to how you answer one question: do you like the combat? I did not, and the game offers nut much outside of combat (unless you are a fan of collecting meaningless stuff). The Nemesis system is an interesting idea, but overall, it is not that gripping as it still boils down to the combat. I am sure that it will return in a different, better game. However, if you played the Arkham Batman series, and liked the combat there (just some button mashing, to be honest), then you will definitely enojy Shadow of Mordor. It is basically the same, but with more fighting and in Middle Earth. This is not a bad game. It's just that I am probably not the target audience.
Pros: + Satisfactory fighting system, + Well-executed model of Sauron Army, + Strengths and weaknesses of opponents, + Ability to build your own orc army, + Nemezis system But... - storyline is not so good (motive of revenge), -The combat system we have seen before (Batman Arkham series), -After some time may get bored. The great advantage of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is the way of representation and wealth of the world. Mordor is not yet burned, but we can see the power of Sauron's army. It is a great position for all Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fans - the story in game is happening between this two trilogies. The plot is okay enough to finish the game.
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor uses the Batman Arkham series style of game-play and takes it up a notch. Combat is so fluid and well-done. It might be too easy overall, but it is just so fun. Very violent, even more than the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit Films. And just like the Arkham series, there is an open world to explore and gather various side quest items. The Nemesis system that has you take on a whole army of Uruks (orcs) is a shining highlight. Story-wise, the game starts off a little derivative, with a revenge story that you have heard a thousand times before. But it gets better and better the more you play. Fans of the films will especially love it, while hardcore Tolkien fans may cringe at the lore inconsistencies. The voice acting is well done as well. Overall, this is an amazing game even if you aren't a fan of Middle-Earth. I was a casual viewer of the films before, but now after playing the game, I want to own the films and read the books. If that isn't a glowing recommendation, I don't know what is.
