The Last of Us 2 was announced with a trailer at The PlayStation Experience, drawing to a close a weekend crammed full of gaming announcements.
The reveal came as a surprise to The Last of Us fans, who have been speculating over whether a second game could ever materialise.
The trailer begins with a shot of the woods, which cuts to a hand tuning a guitar. The character is revealed to be Ellie. As she starts to sing, we see Joel walk into the house, which is strewn with dead bodies and ask her if she intends to go ahead with her plan. Ellie is pretty cut up and as blood drips from her face, she answers ‘I’m going to find and I’m going to kill every last one of them.’
No release date was confirmed or details shared, but Naughty Dog did tweet alongside the release of the trailer, containing the logo image of ‘THE LAST OF US PART II’.
Sony’s Shawn Layden has confirmed that the game is in early development and is running on an updated version of the studios engine.
Creative Director Neil Druckmann has commented in a PlayStation blog post, “It’s still early days for the project—the game’s release is a ways off—but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last of Us Part II in the coming months.”
We can’t wait for more updates on The Last of Us 2, and now we’ve had a taste of what’s to come, we know it will be worth the wait. Watch the reveal trailer below.
